Job Summary: Principal AI Engineer (AI Developer IV)

About the Role

Join a pioneering organization as a Principal AI Engineer (AI Developer IV) leading the transformation to an AI-first software engineering culture. This is a highly impactful, fully remote contract position (with optional on-site in Juno Beach, FL or St. Paul, MN) where you will define AI architecture, lead enterprise-scale AI initiatives, and directly influence technology strategy. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, drive innovation, and remain hands-on in building production-grade AI solutions.

Responsibilities

• Own and define enterprise AI architecture and technical standards

• Design, build, and deploy scalable AI-powered applications and distributed systems

• Lead and mentor cross-functional engineering teams through complex AI transformations

• Develop high-quality production code using Python and cloud-native technologies

• Guide adoption of AI-assisted development tools and modern DevOps practices

• Establish and enforce AI governance, security, and ethical frameworks

• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and recommend strategic investments

• Partner with product, research, and executive stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives

• Influence enterprise-wide engineering best practices and conduct technical design reviews

• Support multiple agile teams operating in quarterly delivery cycles

• Required Skills and Experience

• 15+ years of software engineering experience

• Expert-level Python backend development

• 2+ years of hands-on AI development

• Strong experience building scalable distributed systems

• Advanced skills in AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

• Proven expertise in Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation

• Proficient with API and microservices design

• Experience with AI/ML technologies and modern software architecture

• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field

• Able to work remotely and maintain core CST hours (10:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

• Preferred Skills

• Vue.js, React, or Angular frontend experience

• Recognized subject matter expertise in AI/ML at enterprise scale

• Experience establishing AI governance frameworks and leading AI transformation programs

• Strong background with data platforms and data ecosystems

• Advanced understanding of AI strategy and emerging technology trends

• Demonstrated success mentoring senior technical talent
