About the role
Role & responsibilities : API Testers ensure that application programming interfaces (APIs) function correctly, securely, and efficiently, playing a critical role in software quality assurance. Core Responsibilities Validate API functionality: API Testers verify that endpoints return correct responses for various inputs, ensuring the API performs as intended Check response codes and formats: They confirm status codes (e.g., 200, 400, 500) and data formats like JSON or XML are accurate Test authentication and authorization: API Testers validate security mechanisms such as OAuth2, API keys, and token-based access Automate test cases: Using tools like Postman, SoapUI, Rest Assured, or JMeter, testers create and execute automated tests to improve efficiency and coverage Performance and load testing: They simulate concurrent users to assess API scalability, response times, and reliability under stress Security testing: Testers identify vulnerabilities such as SQL injection, improper error handling, or unauthorized access Regression testing: After bug fixes, API Testers perform thorough regression testing to ensure resolved issues do not affect other functionalities Documentation and reporting: They record, document, and track bugs, provide feedback to development teams, and maintain test plans and quality assurance procedures Collaboration: API Testers work closely with developers, QA leads, and project managers to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle Project planning support: They assist in identifying potential issues early in the development process and contribute to software verification plans Preferred candidate profile : 1. Education and Professional Experience Education : Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or equivalent. Experience : 3–10 years in software development and API testing. Exposure to full software development lifecycle (SDLC) is a plus. Experience with RESTful services, OData APIs, or SOAP APIs is preferred. Certifications : ISTQB certification, Postman API certification, or other relevant API/API automation credentials. 2. Technical Skills (Must-have) Proficient in API testing frameworks and tools such as Postman, SoapUI, REST Assured. Strong knowledge of JSON, XML, and API protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, OAuth). Hands-on experience with automated API testing and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. Familiarity with database querying (SQL/NoSQL) and validating backend responses. Understanding of security, performance, and compliance testing for APIs (e.g., GDPR, ISO 27001 standards). 3. Technical Skills (Nice-to-have) Experience with HR Tech APIs, such as SAP SuccessFactors OData APIs (Candidate, CandidateBackground_* entities, attachments, comments). Knowledge of version control tools (Git) and API mocking services. Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or JavaScript for automated checks. 4. Candidate Background Elements Previous Projects : Exposure to integrating third-party APIs into products, performing automated smoke and regression testing for APIs. Documentation Skills : Able to write detailed test cases, maintain logs, and provide structured bug reports. Problem-Solving : Experience in troubleshooting complex API failures and reporting issues with reproducible steps. Communication : Ability to collaborate with development and QA teams effectively and clearly describe API behavior. 5. Behavioral Traits and Mindset Analytical thinker capable of identifying and anticipating potential edge-case failures. Detail-oriented while maintaining efficiency in test execution. Adaptable and willing to learn new API platforms or business domains rapidly. Self-motivated, proactive in raising issues, and meticulous in following testing protocols
