About the role
As a Polymer Product & Process Engineer at SSI Aeration, your role involves supporting material selection, product development, and manufacturing improvement in the field of plastics and rubber. Your responsibilities will include: - Selecting suitable plastic and rubber materials based on application and performance criteria. - Providing material and process expertise to design and manufacturing teams. - Troubleshooting molding, extrusion, and vulcanization defects, and performing root cause analysis. - Conducting and coordinating material testing such as tensile, hardness, aging, and compression set tests. - Preparing material specifications, test reports, and technical documentation. - Collaborating with suppliers to qualify and enhance material quality. To qualify for this position, you should have: - A Bachelor's degree in Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, or a related field. - A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in plastics, elastomers, or polymer processing. - Knowledge of injection molding, extrusion, or rubber compounding. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. In this role, you will need to demonstrate the following key competencies: - Strong understanding of polymer science, elastomer behavior, compounding, curing, and degradation. - Knowledge of common materials such as EPDM, NBR, Silicone, TPU, PP, PE, Nylon, PVC, etc. - Ability to interpret material datasheets, rheology, and physical property behavior. - Experience in comparing materials for cost, performance, and manufacturability. - Familiarity with molding, extrusion, vulcanization, and thermoforming processes. - Awareness of tooling design considerations and ability to troubleshoot defects. - Experience with ASTM/ISO material testing standards and quality tools. - Strong communication skills for presenting technical findings and training teams. - Familiarity with CAD software for component evaluation and laboratory instruments for material characterization.
