About the role
Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services and RESTful APIs using Python and modern web frameworks such as Django.
Lead the integration of computer vision models and AI pipelines into production backend systems, optimizing performance, scalability, and resource utilization.
Design, implement, and optimize relational database schemas, queries, and indexing strategies to ensure high availability, data integrity, and efficient performance.
Deploy, manage, and optimize backend infrastructure on AWS while maintaining secure, reliable, and scalable cloud environments.
Lead technical architecture discussions, define engineering standards, conduct code reviews, and promote software development best practices across the team.
Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and continuous feedback.
Collaborate with machine learning, product, and engineering teams to streamline AI model deployment and improve production workflows through MLOps practices where applicable.
Contribute to CI/CD automation, testing strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure high-quality software delivery.
Requirements

10+ years of professional software development experience with strong expertise in Python backend engineering.

Extensive hands-on experience building scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Django or other modern Python frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.

Proven experience integrating computer vision technologies into backend applications using frameworks such as OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar tools.

Strong knowledge of relational databases, including PostgreSQL or MySQL, with expertise in schema design, query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.

Experience deploying, managing, and scaling cloud-native applications on AWS.

Solid understanding of software architecture, object-oriented programming, clean code principles, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based development workflows.

Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including architecture design, code reviews, mentoring, and leading engineering teams.

Familiarity with MLOps practices, model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management is considered an advantage.

Experience within biotechnology, AgTech, or related scientific domains is beneficial but not required.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to thrive in a fully remote team environment.
