Role & responsibilities Job Summary The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining automated systems and machinery used in the production process. This role is crucial for improving efficiency, ensuring quality, reducing costs, and increasing capacity through the application of advanced automation technologies. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in electrical, mechanical, and software engineering principles as they apply to industrial control systems. ________________________________ Main Responsibilities * Design and program new automated systems, including PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) logic, HMI (Human-Machine Interface) screens, and robotics applications. * Develop detailed electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams. * Select, size, and specify components such as sensors, actuators, motors, and control hardware. * Oversee the installation, startup, and commissioning of new automation equipment and systems. * Perform rigorous testing and validation to ensure systems meet design specifications and safety standards. * Troubleshoot and debug existing automated systems to identify and resolve operational issues, minimizing downtime. * Implement continuous improvement projects to enhance machine reliability, throughput, and product quality. * Conduct routine maintenance, calibration, and upgrades to control hardware and software. * Create and maintain detailed documentation for all automated systems, including user manuals, operational procedures, and training materials. * Train maintenance technicians and operators on the proper use and basic troubleshooting of automated equipment. * Ensure all automated systems comply with relevant industry safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO) and company policies. * Participate in risk assessments and implement appropriate safety interlocks and features. ________________________________ Preferred candidate profile Essential Education and Certifications * Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field. ________________________________ Required Experience * Professional Experience: Minimum 4+ years of professional experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or a similar role. ________________________________ Necessary Skills & Required Competencies * Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi) and HMI development * Experience with robotics integration and programming (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA) * Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo systems, and motor controls. * Ability to read and interpret complex electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics. * Familiarity with CAD software for control panel design and drafting (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical) * Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus) * Experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems or MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) ________________________________ Relevant Personality Traits * Meticulous in design, coding, and documentation.
