What you will be doing:

Work mainly within the operations group supporting operations and production requirements.

Support Design and Project Engineering efforts translating requirements into production implementation activities.

Plan and prepare manufacturing documentation according to Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) practices, including Visual Work Instructions (VWI), based on design requirements defined through drawings and specifications.

Determine equipment, tooling plans, and cellular manufacturing concepts for assigned area of responsibility.

Originate and develop new manufacturing and tooling concepts.

Provide data to Estimating for quoting customer requests.

Prepare reports showing areas for improvement.

Run improvement projects and initiate efforts in the development of new manufacturing and production techniques.

Plan and carry out policies and procedures for manufacturing operation efforts utilized in the manufacturing areas.

Serve as the focal point for all technical aspects of assigned project(s), including: compliance with customer/product procurement specifications; validating the manufacturing process meets all customer and internal requirements; initiating and supporting product manufacturability; reviewing and supporting planning document releases; Advanced Quality Planning (AQP); tooling requirements; Visual Work Instructions (VWI); meeting cost targets; and eliminating waste from manufacturing processes.

Responsible for clear and concise work instructions for detail parts, sub-assemblies, and top assemblies.

Apply operation time standards as required and develop Work Combination Sheets (WCS).

Ensure the manufacturability of detail parts, sub-assemblies, and top assemblies as applicable to projects/programs.

Serve as a potential liaison providing technical assistance between manufacturing and customer cognizant engineering.

May be assigned to work with developing supplier processes and help correct supplier issues.

Assist in the initial manufacturing cycle of all new detail parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies for assigned New Product Introduction (NPI).

Follow up on the effectiveness of manufacturing processes.

Identify, implement, and drive cost reduction ideas; assigned to special cost reduction initiatives as part of a multi-discipline team.

Work on or lead a Production Support Team and partner with other team members to address manufacturing issues.

Perform Root Cause and Preventive Actions to eliminate causes for nonconforming products.

Perform, document, and validate component, assembly, and/or system processes such as machining, forming, stamping, heat treating, and chemical processing of the following materials: Titanium, Inconel, Aluminum, Stainless Steel, O1 and D2 tooling steel.

Ensure that all engineering changes are documented and implemented.

Coordinate and support the design of tooling as it applies to the manufacturing/assembly process.

Develop sound manufacturing processes based upon company capabilities.

Review production drawing(s) for technical content.

Make recommendations and offer credible solutions to product, tooling, and processes.

Provide data and relevant information to the quoting process.

Follow all company policies and procedures.

Perform related work as required.

What you'll need to be successful

  • Essential:

  • S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or another Engineering discipline with 3+ years of engineering experience in an Aerospace environment; OR M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or another Engineering discipline with 2+ years of engineering experience in an Aerospace environment.

  • Must possess basic knowledge of NDT and geometric tolerance.

  • Knowledge of materials planning systems (MRP/ERP) requirements and order generation process logic.

  • Language: Must have excellent written and verbal skills; ability to read, comprehend, present, and write (in English) correspondence, work orders, policies, procedures, etc.; ability to prepare presentations and speak/present material to large groups of employees.

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a common-sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving many concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as averages, summations, standard deviations, statistical trends, proportions, and percentages.

  • Other Abilities: Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work within a team and independently.

  • USA Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card) only due to ITAR requirements.

  • Onsite position in the Glendale, CA / Burbank, CA area.

  • Preferred:

  • Experience with fast-paced manufacturing environments.

  • Knowledge of sheet metal processes (welding, forming, NDT, etc.), geometric tolerances, and aerospace materials.

  • Knowledge of aircraft ECS ducting.

  • Knowledge of sheet metal and aerospace materials.

  • Knowledge of forming, welding, machining, and heat treating.
