What you will be doing:
The Controls Engineer is responsible for providing strategic and technical leadership in the area of developing propulsion controls strategies. Experience in both propulsion system control development and/or calibration is desired. The candidate should be experienced in control state of the art technologies, including but not limited to the areas of electrified powertrains, conventional engines, and transmissions, with experience in system and control design, calibration, and testing. The candidate must be a strong team player, systems focused with interdisciplinary experience & expertise, and willing to work in fast paced environment. The Controls Engineer is responsible for both individual technical project deliverables, coordinating activities and bringing projects to successful conclusions. The Systems Control Engineer position resides within the Advanced Controls Team. The term "advanced" refers primarily to early-phase development activities rather than highly complex engineering work. The team is responsible for developing and validating control strategies during the initial stages of propulsion system development. The team intentionally consists of individuals with diverse educational backgrounds and professional experiences. Success in the role is not limited to one specific discipline or career path. Role Purpose
The Systems Control Engineer develops and evaluates automotive propulsion control systems and algorithms that support current and future vehicle programs. The role focuses on early concept development, controls design, system analysis, testing, validation, and requirements generation for downstream software implementation teams. Engineers contribute throughout the full development lifecycle, from concept generation and technology exploration through validation and handoff to production engineering teams.
Technical Responsibilities Control Systems Development
Develop automotive control system strategies and algorithms for propulsion applications. Design and model control logic using:
MATLAB Simulink Stateflow
Support controls development for:
Internal combustion engines Automatic and hybrid transmissions Electric motors Battery systems Electrified propulsion technologies
Data Analysis & System Evaluation
Analyze test data to evaluate control system performance. Perform benchmarking studies against competitive technologies and industry solutions. Conduct theoretical and conceptual analyses to support new feature development. Translate data findings into actionable engineering recommendations.
Requirements Development

Generate control requirements and system specifications based on engineering analysis and validation results. Define functional requirements for software implementation teams. Develop supporting technical documentation and engineering reports.

Troubleshooting & Investigation Responsibilities The position includes significant diagnostic and investigative work. Engineers are expected to:
Analyze unexpected system behaviors. Investigate control system issues using data-driven methodologies. Conduct root-cause analysis. Coordinate troubleshooting efforts with other engineering teams. Validate corrective actions through testing and analysis. Determine whether identified issues originate from controls, hardware, calibration, or other vehicle subsystems.

Summary Statement for Job Description The Systems Control Engineer supports the development of advanced automotive propulsion control systems across combustion, hybrid, and electrified vehicle platforms. This role combines controls modeling, data analysis, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and requirements development throughout the product development lifecycle. Working within a highly cross-functional environment, the engineer develops control strategies, validates system performance, generates technical requirements, and provides engineering deliverables that enable downstream software teams to implement production-ready solutions.
What you'll need to be successful

Basic:
-
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Physics, or any other relevant STEM oriented degree from an ABET accredited university.

5 years of total experience in conventional and electrified propulsion system controls/calibration development.

Demonstrated ability in control algorithm development methods.

Demonstrated potential to teach, lead and inspire.

Effective experienced based or analytical problem solving ability.
