Senior Back End Engineer

As a Senior Backend AI Engineer at Elife, you will be responsible for designing and operating multi-agent systems, implementing automated software delivery pipelines, managing LLM & Reasoning Stack, evaluating agent performance, ensuring safety & reliability, and meeting specific technical requirements. Your role will be crucial in building and maintaining the global B2B infrastructure that powers rides and instant delivery for enterprise platforms. Key Responsibilities: - Design and operate multi-agent systems with orchestrator and specialist agents covering planning, coding, testing, and review - Build feedback loops for agents to detect failures, read error output, and self-correct without human intervention - Define agent tool APIs including shell execution, code interpreter, file system access, and CI triggers - Implement sandboxed execution environments for safe autonomous code execution - Build pipelines where AI autonomously generates tests and integrates with GitHub/GitLab - Design prompting strategies for code generation, test synthesis, PR narration, and review response - Implement RAG pipelines over codebases using vector databases with AST-aware chunking - Define success metrics, build evaluation harnesses, and track agent performance regressions - Apply least-privilege execution, implement human-in-the-loop gates, defend against prompt injection, and ensure idempotent agent actions - Define and enforce token budgets and cost throttling per agent run Requirements: Non-negotiable experience: - 5+ years of backend engineering in production systems - 2+ years designing or building agentic AI systems - Direct experience with agent output where AI authored the majority of code diffs - Hands-on experience with an LLM evaluation harness for code quality assessment Technical skills: - Proficiency in Python with Go or Rust for performance-critical components - Experience in API design for agent tool endpoints, Kubernetes-based agent orchestration, and scaling - Familiarity with vector databases, distributed tracing, and observability tooling Nice to have: - Experience with SWE-bench, HumanEval, or other code generation benchmarks - Contributions to open-source agentic frameworks - Knowledge of formal verification or property-based testing for agent output validation - Experience deploying LLMs on custom hardware - Background in compiler design or static analysis Join Elife's diverse team spanning 22 countries and be part of a global infrastructure that empowers enterprise platforms worldwide.
