Miles IT is looking for a Principal Database Administrator to serve as the strategic architect of our data ecosystem, bridging the gap between legacy on-premise stability and the future of Azure cloud scalability. We aren't just looking for someone to maintain the status quo; we need a strategic visionary who can bridge the gap between legacy on-premise stability and the cutting-edge possibilities of Azure cloud. As the primary architect of our multi-tenant SaaS database strategy, you will be the guardian of our system health and the mentor to a talented team of DBAs and developers. If you thrive on solving complex performance puzzles from advanced query tuning to high-availability disaster recovery and have a passion for translating technical excellence into business growth, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact. You will lead high-stakes migrations, define long-term roadmaps, and ensure that our data platforms are as secure and cost-efficient as they are powerful. At Miles IT, your expertise won't just support the business; it will drive it. RESPONSIBILITIES - Define and drive the long-term database strategy and roadmap in alignment with product growth and business goals. - Lead architectural decisions for multi-tenant SaaS databases to ensure scalability, security, and cost-efficiency. - Manage and optimize Azure SQL Managed Instances and on-premise SQL Server environments for maximum stability. - Define, implement, and maintain high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) strategies to meet strict performance and uptime SLAs. - Execute end-to-end cloud migration strategies, moving on-premise workloads to Azure with minimal risk. - Identify and drive continuous performance improvements through advanced query tuning, indexing, and concurrency management. - Establish and enforce database standards and operational best practices for safe, high-quality deployments. - Lead and mentor a team of DBAs and developers, overseeing technical delivery and skilled growth. QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field. - 8+ Years of Database Administration: Proven track record managing high-availability environments across both Legacy On-Premise SQL Server and Modern Azure SQL/Managed Instances. - 3+ Years of leadership experience as a Lead or Manager, with a focus on mentoring junior DBAs and Database Developers - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance, with a focus on comprehensive database administration, modernization, and cloud adoption. - Proven experience designing and managing multi-tenant SaaS database architectures to ensure long-term scalability, security, and performance. - Expertise in performance engineering, including bottleneck troubleshooting, query optimization, execution plan analysis, and proactive index tuning. - Technical mastery of High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) strategies, consistent health checks, and preventive maintenance to ensure maximum uptime. - Strong ownership of system reliability and scalability, supported by high-level project planning, prioritization skills, and a sense of responsibility for system health. - Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor DBAs and engineers while translating complex database concepts for non-technical stakeholders. .
