Informix Database Administrator

Location: Bangalore Urban, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata ,Gurugram The Informix DBA will administer and optimize IBM Informix database environments to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance. The role involves daily health checks, capacity and performance monitoring, and proactive issue resolution using Informix tools and Unix shell scripting. The DBA will design and execute robust backup and recovery strategies and manage replication for resilience and scale. They will also plan and perform server and environment migrations, and leverage monitoring tools like Nagios, Grafana, and LPAR2RRD for observability. Collaboration with infrastructure and application teams is essential to support deployments, changes, and incident response. Required Qualifications Extensive handson experience as an Informix DBA Strong knowledge of Informix architecture and core administration concepts Handson experience with database backup and restore Proficiency with Informix utilities/tools: onstat, ontape/onbar, dbexport, dbimport Strong working knowledge of Unix commands and shell scripting Familiarity with PuTTY for remote administration Experience with monitoring tools: Nagios, Grafana, and LPAR2RRD Proven experience with replication (e.g., HDR/RSS/SDS) Experience with migration of servers/boxes across environments Responsibilities Administer, maintain, and optimize IBM Informix database instances across environments. Design, implement, and routinely test backup and recovery plans (ontape/onbar) including pointintime recovery. Use Informix utilities (onstat, dbexport/dbimport) for diagnostics, maintenance, and data movement. Monitor performance, capacity, and availability using Nagios, Grafana, and LPAR2RRD; remediate alerts proactively. Develop and maintain Unix shell scripts to automate routine DBA tasks (backups, checks, cleanup). Configure and support replication (e.g., HDR/RSS/SDS), and validate failover/DR procedures. Plan and execute server and environment migrations with minimal downtime and data integrity assurance. Troubleshoot incidents involving performance, locking, storage, and connectivity using onstat and logs. Perform routine health checks, capacity planning, and maintenance windows in coordination with app/infra teams. Maintain documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures; support oncall and incident response.
