About the role
Primary Responsibilities: The Automation Architect (Associate) will be part of the Agility & Strategic Intelligence team within the Morgan Stanley at Work organization. Work with business and technology stakeholders to understand manual processes, collect requirements, and convert them into automation-ready process maps, user stories, acceptance criteria, and test scenarios. Design, build, and support Python-led automation, workflow solutions along with Dataiku and approved enterprise low-code/no-code tooling. Build practical AI-enabled automations and low-code/no-code agents that improve operational efficiency while validating outputs and maintaining required controls. Apply prompt engineering techniques to create, test, refine, and document prompts for business workflows, knowledge retrieval, summarization, classification, and developer productivity use cases. Use AI productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot responsibly to accelerate coding, documentation, testing, and troubleshooting while owning the final output quality. Configure data transformations, validations, reconciliations, and exception handling for automation workflows using Python, SQL, or Dataiku where appropriate. Support end-to-end delivery for assigned tasks and small workstreams, including build, unit testing, UAT support, release readiness, production monitoring, and post-production support. Maintain clear documentation, reusable components, runbooks, SOPs, control evidence, and support handoffs. Coordinate with onshore/offshore stakeholders on project details, technical queries, blockers, and status updates. Analyze existing processes and tools to identify gaps and recommend improvements to reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and strengthen controls. The Associate Automation Specialist: Balances functional analysis and hands-on automation execution - able to move from requirement discovery to solution delivery for well-defined workstreams. Demonstrates ownership and accountability for assigned deliverables while seeking guidance for complex design, risk, or control decisions. Required Skillset 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in Python-led automation, data automation or software development; prior hands-on project delivery experience is required. Strong hands-on Python experience, including scripting, data processing, API integration, validation, troubleshooting, and reusable automation components. Working knowledge of Dataiku for data preparation, visual recipes, datasets, automation flows, or comparable data workflow platforms. Front-End/Web App Working Experience (HTML/CSS/JavaScript): Implement basic UI changes, troubleshoot common front-end issues, and partner with developers/QA on enhancements and defect fixes. Able to independently implement straightforward UI changes, troubleshoot basic front-end issues, and collaborate with developers/QA on web app enhancements and defect fixes. Exposure to low-code/no-code workflow and agent-building tools with ability to design simple business agents, automations, and human-in-the-loop flows. Good prompt engineering skills: write clear prompts, define context, test edge cases, evaluate AI outputs, and improve reliability through iterative refinement. Basic AI/GenAI knowledge is mandatory, including understanding of LLM capabilities and limitations, hallucination risks, validation, responsible use, and data privacy. Ability to use AI-assisted developer tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve productivity while reviewing, testing, and owning final outputs. Strong requirements gathering and process analysis skills with ability to create process flows, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications. Understanding of SQL/database concepts, data mappings, data quality checks, reconciliations, and basic ETL/data integration patterns. Understanding of SDLC/Agile delivery, testing practices, version control basics, and production support fundamentals. Strong communication skills; comfortable interacting with both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders. Strongly Desired Qualifications Experience supporting production Python automations, including incident triage, root cause analysis, monitoring, and preventive fixes. Operational knowledge of Jira, Confluence, Git/GitHub or Bitbucket, and basic CI/CD concepts. Experience with User Acceptance Testing, test data preparation, quality checks, and documentation of control evidence. Experience in financial services, employee benefit plans, stock plan/equity administration, or client/onboarding operations. Ability to coordinate with onshore and offshore teams and manage multiple priorities with limited supervision. Preferred Skillsets Basic understanding of equity compensation and employee benefit plans. Working knowledge of OpenAI APIs or enterprise AI assistants were used within approved controls. Exposure to Automation, Copilot Studio, Power Apps, or similar low-code/no-code platforms. Experience with Power BI/Tableau or reporting dashboards. Familiarity with cloud/data platforms such as Azure, Snowflake, or similar. Basic awareness of data security, privacy, and compliance requirements in automation and AI use cases. RPA skill, including Studio development, reusable workflows, selectors, queues, Orchestrator basics, exception handling, and deployment support. Qualifications BE/BTech in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or a related discipline; Computer Science stream equivalent relevant experience will also be considered. 3-4 years of hands-on experience in Python scripting, data workflow automation, automation, or low-code/no-code solution delivery. Practical experience with Python as the primary automation/programming skill and exposure to Dataiku, SQL, or similar automation/data tooling.
