About the role
- Perform all technical research, analysis, design and architecting of IT Database systems ensuring that the documented business and technical requirements are met and implemented to industry best practice standards. - Drives short & long term architecture strategy for IT Database systems. Communicates and validates database architecture with the technology services and development management teams. - Lead technical design discussions working closely with Development and project team members to ensure documented requirements are being met within proposed solutions. - Install, configure, maintain, and database systems, schema, tables, indexes, procedures, and permissions. - Create backup / recovery of databases for MySQL. - Ensure SQL Transactional Replication (Create / monitor / resolve) is occurring successfully. - Track performance metrics of maintained databases; identify potential capacity / performance issues and resolve or recommend changes to meet business requirements. - Conduct regular performance tuning, indexing, and normalization of database systems. - Develop and test SQL scripts for task automation and reporting. - Provide monitoring support for critical database servers and supporting services. - Meet project deliverables for new and / or changes to existing technology within project requirements. - Install/Migrate/Administrate MySQL to Mariadb. - Ensure server downtime resulting from maintenance and improvements are limited to non-production hours whenever possible. - Identify new opportunities that reduce costs while maintaining adequate functionality and support, improve technology performance and / or stability and improve existing processes therefore reducing effort or increasing productivity. - Db patching and db upgrade/migrate. Resource monitoring and requirement analysis. - Develop and document issue resolution knowledge base. - Provide second and third level support for all database systems. - Availability for on-call 24/7 support. Position Requirements : - Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or other related discipline a plus. - Minimum of five (5) years of experience in database administration. - Minimum of four (3) years of administrator experience in an IT Enterprise organization which practiced ITIL methodologies. - Thorough training and demonstrated analytical and technical skills in installing, configuring, integrating and administering MySQL within the Linux / LAMP stack. - Experience including, but not limited to, MySQL, Mariadb, Linux RedHat, Apache, and PHP or other scripting languages. - Hands-on experience supporting Highly Available (HA) database environments with solutions such as clustering. This should include supporting a (3) node MySQL cluster. - Experience in systems engineering design, analysis, integration, and life-cycle engineering in support of large information systems projects. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to work as a team member in a fast paced workplace. - Ability to manage and communicate project tasks, status, and deadlines.
