Head of Data Science, Managing Director

Role Overview: Join our digital revolution in NatWest Digital X by taking on the role of Head of Data Science. As part of the senior leadership team in Data Science & Innovation (DS&I) within Data & Analytics, you will be responsible for creating new data products, leveraging the bank's data assets, and embedding data-driven thinking and ways of working. This role offers you the opportunity to solve complex business problems using advanced data science techniques at a managing director level. Key Responsibilities: - Solve complex business problems, driving 6x ROI using data science methods and tools - Lead a team of data scientists and engineers to develop the bank-wide data science platform and tools - Grow the bank's Data Science Community of Practice and ensure a steady flow of data talent - Drive a leading-edge data research agenda, developing new intellectual property and publishing peer-reviewed papers - Lead the India team of DS&I data scientists and engineers to explore new techniques and demonstrate their application to data - Create value across the business through transformational projects, deliver prioritized use cases, and work closely with stakeholders - Lead India-focused education and developments in data science, acting as the pastoral lead for all DS&I resources in India - Drive India's data science research and experimentation agenda to deepen the bank's understanding of analytical techniques - Build the bank's brand in global data science communities to attract new talent Qualifications Required: - Deep experience in deploying data science techniques in industry, including AI solutions like machine learning and generative AI - Ability to work with and influence business stakeholders and data science peers - Broad and deep understanding of banking across all franchises and functions from both business and data perspectives - Experience deploying advanced data techniques including Python, Spark, and AWS-stack tools like SageMaker and ECS - Strong team management and development skills in a technically complex environment - Structured thinker with the ability to clarify and simplify complex ideas - PhD in Data Science or related area with at least 10 years of industry experience Location and Additional Details: This role is based in India, specifically in Bangalore. The Bangalore hub is located at Taurus 4, Bagmane Constellation Business Park, offering a state-of-the-art hub for innovation and collaboration. The campus spans 30 acres and has space for 6,000 colleagues, having been opened in 2025.
