About the role
What You'll Do: • Build backend services: Design, build and maintain backend services and APIs (primarily in Go and Python) that power Neo's financial products. • Distributed systems: Work on distributed, event-driven systems reasoning about scalability, latency, reliability and trade-offs across services. • Instrumentation & observability: Instrument what you build: add logging, metrics, traces, dashboards and alerts so the team understands system health in production. • Ship & operate: Take part in deploying and operating your services CI/CD pipelines, containerised workloads and cloud infrastructure not just handing code over a wall. • Production ownership: Help troubleshoot, debug and continuously improve services in production, including participating in incident investigation and follow-ups. • Data & persistence: Design and work with SQL data models, keeping performance and correctness front of mind. • Engineering quality: Write clean, well-tested, well-documented code and take part in code reviews and design discussions. What We're Looking For • Experience: 2–4 years of professional backend engineering experience (strong internship or project work considered for the right candidate). • Languages: Hands-on experience building backend services in Go and/or Python (we work primarily across both). • Distributed systems: Exposure to or genuine interest in distributed systems microservices, APIs, message queues, and the trade-offs involved in building reliable services. • Fundamentals: Solid fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, REST API design and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL). • Ownership: A production mindset — you care about how code behaves after it ships, not just whether it compiles. • Collaboration: Strong communication and a willingness to learn quickly in a fast-moving environment.
