About Netsmart: Netsmart is a leading healthcare technology organization dedicated to Moving Healthcare Forward, Together. For more than 55 years, Netsmart has partnered with community-based and post-acute care providers to improve outcomes for the individuals and communities they serve. Our culture is rooted in collaboration, trust, service, and a strong commitment to responsible, secure innovation in healthcare. This is an onsite role in our Overland Park, KS office location. Role Overview: Netsmart is seeking a Senior Director, AI & Engineering Development to lead the delivery of AI-enabled engineering solutions across our healthcare technology platform. This role is responsible for executing AI and engineering initiatives that translate product strategy into scalable, reliable, and high-impact solutions for our clients and communities. Title rationale (recommended): We use “AI & Engineering Development” to clearly reflect the hands-on software development foundation required for this leader—someone who can build, scale, and operationalize AI capabilities in production while leading high-performing engineering teams. Reporting to senior technology and product leadership, the Senior Director will provide hands-on technical and people leadership, partnering closely with Product, Data, Clinical, Security, and Compliance teams to ensure AI capabilities are delivered responsibly, securely, and at scale. Key Responsibilities: AI & Engineering Execution Lead engineering teams responsible for building, deploying, and operating AI-enabled and data-driven solutions. Translate AI and product strategy into clear engineering roadmaps, delivery plans, and outcomes. Ensure solutions meet Netsmart standards for quality, performance, security, reliability, and scalability. Apply modern engineering, DevOps, and MLOps practices to support continuous delivery and operational excellence. Product & Cross-Functional Partnership Partner with Product Management to deliver AI capabilities aligned to client needs and market priorities. Collaborate with Data Science and Analytics teams to operationalize models into production systems. Work closely with Clinical, Compliance, Privacy, and Security partners to meet healthcare and regulatory requirements. Architecture, Platforms & Standards Provide technical leadership across AI platforms, data pipelines, and system integrations. Establish and uphold engineering standards, architectural patterns, and best practices. Drive reuse and platform thinking to enable scalable and sustainable AI delivery across solutions. We need someone who can leverage artificial intelligence to accelerate, automate, and optimize the migration and modernization of applications to cloud environments. What that looks like in practice: AI-assisted code modernization (refactoring monoliths into microservices using AI tools) Automated code analysis & conversion (language/framework upgrades, dependency mapping) Intelligent workload migration (AI identifies what to move, how, and in what order) AI-driven testing & validation (auto-generating test cases, catching regressions) Optimization in the cloud (AI tuning performance, cost, and scaling patterns) Embedding AI into migrated apps (adding copilots, NLP, or predictive capabilities post-migration) Responsible AI & Governance Implement responsible AI practices including transparency, explainability, monitoring, and continuous validation. Support AI governance, risk management, and compliance efforts in partnership with leadership. Ensure AI solutions align with Netsmart’s commitment to trust, safety, and community impact. People Leadership Lead, coach, and develop high-performing AI and engineering teams. Recruit, retain, and grow technical talent aligned with Netsmart values and standards. Foster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous improvement-oriented team culture. Qualifications 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles with increasing scope. Demonstrated experience delivering AI, machine learning, or data-driven systems in production. Strong understanding of cloud-based architectures, AI/ML platforms, and MLOps practices. Experience working in regulated industries; healthcare experience strongly preferred. Proven ability to partner effectively across engineering, product, data, and business teams. Strong communication, people leadership, and execution skills. Why Netsmart At Netsmart, you will build technology that truly matters.
