Job Description

NOV South Africa is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer (Electrical Draftsman). In this role you will prepare and draft detailed electrical drawings such as schematics, circuit diagrams, panel layouts, detailed arrangement drawings, and general arrangement drawings for rig equipment electrical systems. You will support the engineering team by converting design concepts and technical specifications into accurate manufacturing and installation drawings while ensuring compliance with NOV and industry standards. You’ll collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines to enhance the value of NOV’s products and services.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and revise electrical drawings, schematics, panel layouts, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and related technical documentation associated with rig equipment.
  • Develop accurate electrical drafting deliverables using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar CAD software in compliance with NOV, client, and industry standards.
  • Support electrical engineers during design, manufacturing, FAT, commissioning, and project execution activities.
  • Assist with the preparation of cable schedules, load lists, circuit indexes, FAT procedures, installation procedures, commissioning procedures, and as-built documentation.
  • Assist electrical engineers with BOM (Bill of Materials) preparation.
  • Update drawings to incorporate engineering revisions, FAT redlines, and site modifications.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and production teams to ensure efficient project delivery and drawing accuracy.
  • Maintain document control, drawing registers, and revision management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in design reviews and support continuous improvement of drafting standards and engineering processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Drafting, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or equivalent CAD software is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in electrical or instrumentation drafting within the design industry, preferably in mining machinery, automotive, industrial, manufacturing, oil & gas, or related environments.
  • Experience preparing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of document control, revision management, and engineering change processes

Technical Competencies

  • Strong electrical and instrumentation drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN and other electrical drafting/CAD software.
  • Ability to prepare electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and standards.
  • Knowledge of document control, revision management, and engineering change processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.).
