About the Role
The client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Champaign, Illinois office. In this role, you will lead and contribute to the mechanical design of innovative, cutting-edge projects across the healthcare, municipal, and higher education sectors throughout Illinois and beyond.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of complex engineering projects while working within a collaborative, forward-thinking team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as Senior Mechanical Engineer across all phases of project development, including:
Client coordination
Pre-design and final design services
Meetings, site visits, RFIs, and change orders
Overall project management
Lead the conceptual design of:
Process systems
Mechanical systems
Plumbing systems
Code-compliant solutions
Conduct existing conditions surveys and prepare:
PFDs and P&IDs
Layouts, sections, elevations, and technical details
Organize, prepare, and review:
Mechanical and plumbing construction drawings
Technical specifications
Contract documents
Project estimates
Develop:
Engineering solutions and system designs
Cost estimates and bills of materials
Project schedules
Ensure compliance with applicable mechanical, piping, and plumbing codes and standards
Areas of Technical Focus
Chilled Water, Refrigeration & Ammonia Systems
Compressed Air Systems
Plumbing & Fire Protection
Boiler & Steam / Hot Water Distribution Systems
HVAC Systems
Water & Wastewater Systems
Equipment Specification, Evaluation & Selection
Life Cycle Cost Analysis & Energy Modeling
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (4-year accredited U.S. university)

Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois strongly preferred

10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in a design/consulting firm

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design preferred

Strong project leadership and client coordination experience
