Backend Engineer

About the Role: We are looking for a skilled Backend Engineer to build secure, scalable, and high-performance backend systems that power modern web applications. You will be responsible for designing APIs, managing databases, integrating third-party services, and ensuring the reliability and scalability of our infrastructure. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex engineering challenges while building systems that are secure, efficient, and production-ready. Responsibilities: Design and develop scalable backend services and RESTful APIs. Build secure, maintainable, and high-performance server-side applications. Design, optimise, and manage relational and NoSQL databases. Implement authentication, authorisation, and role-based access control. Integrate third-party APIs, payment gateways, and external services. Write clean, modular, and well-tested backend code. Monitor application health, troubleshoot production issues, and improve system reliability. Optimise backend performance, database queries, and server response times. Collaborate with frontend engineers to deliver seamless end-to-end functionality. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and infrastructure improvements. Requirements: Experience with backend development and RESTful APIs. Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases. Knowledge of authentication, authorisation, and role-based access control. Experience integrating third-party APIs and external services. Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. Strong debugging and problem-solving skills. Good to Have: Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration using Docker. Experience building CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation. Knowledge of caching strategies using Redis and message queues. Experience with monitoring and logging tools for production systems. Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems. Contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub portfolio.
