Product Development Engineer III - Java/J2EE

Role Overview: You will be the Backend Product Development Engineer III at Phenom, responsible for leading the design and development of scalable, secure, and efficient backend systems built on a Microservices architecture. As a senior individual contributor, you will own the backend architecture, build production-grade services, mentor junior engineers, and ensure operational excellence across platforms. Key Responsibilities: - Architect and design large-scale backend systems using a Microservices architecture for scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability. - Lead backend product development by translating business requirements into technical solutions with a focus on SaaS, multi-tenant, and Microservices-based architecture. - Develop independent, loosely coupled microservices using Java/J2EE, REST APIs, and MongoDB for high performance and scalability. - Own API design, service contracts, data modeling, schema evolution, and backward compatibility across microservices. - Design systems for horizontal scalability, fault tolerance, and high availability, including inter-service communication, retries, timeouts, and failure recovery. - Ensure backend systems align with DevOps best practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, logging, monitoring, and alerting. - Take ownership of production microservices, including on-call responsibilities, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and implementing permanent fixes. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams like Product, Frontend, Platform, and Cloud to deliver backend solutions successfully. - Mentor and guide junior engineers (PDE I/PDE II) through code reviews, design discussions, and technical mentorship to enhance their expertise in backend and microservices. Qualifications Required: - 8+ years of hands-on software development experience with a focus on backend engineering. - Expertise in Java/J2EE, REST, and JSON for building backend services. - Experience in designing and implementing Microservices-based systems in production. - Hands-on experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases for schema design, indexing, and performance tuning. - Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) with experience in deploying and operating microservices. - Experience in building and operating SaaS, multi-tenant applications. - Previous experience mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions. - Operational experience in post-launch troubleshooting, system monitoring, and on-call responsibilities.
