Job Title Packaging Engineer Job Description You are responsible for

Technical leadership in all packaging aspects of product development, launch and maintenance stage processes. Ensure smooth design transfer to industrialization, implementation of packaging requirements, check & optimization of systems and sub-systems, problem-solving in design and providing guidance to internal team, and external vendors ensuring robust end-to-end packaging design to fulfil quality / reliability/ safety and meet system requirements.

Packaging requirements definition, development and launch plus aftercare of innovation projects, driving design review and development with (internal) engineering teams, OEM/ODM manufactures, including lifecycle product quality improvements. Managing the technical execution of packaging development with the cross-functional team and external vendors. Ensuring packaging requirements are clearly communicated and understood by suppliers. Overseeing the packaging design process to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards for customer appeal, structural integrity, and sustainability and optimize packaging concepts for manufacturability and cost.

Creating packaging drawings and technical specifications, including materials, shipping cartons / palletization etc.., driving smooth packaging test execution, analyses and performance verification and reporting

Ensures accurate and complete documentation of design specifications, test results, and validation procedures, adhering to regulatory standards and supervising the documentation efforts of junior team members.

Use of critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative packaging solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Display a knack for complex problem solving by evaluating options and implementing solutions that address the root cause.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering or a related technical field

Minimum 3 years of experience in packaging design and/or manufacturing, including paperboard, corrugated structures and structural packaging design. Track-record of developing consumer-related product packaging from concept development to market launch with key involvement in the industrialization phase.

Working knowledge of tools such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Esko ArtiosCAD, CAPE Pack, Adobe Illustrator, SolidWorks, or PTC Creo

Knowledge of ISTA testing protocols, international shipping / transportation standards and familiar with packaging materials like paper/carton, plastics, etc.

Familiar with technical product documentation, particularly the data related to packaging dimensions, weights, logistical data and knowledge of data management to the PLM system.

Excellent communication skills at all levels (fluent in English) to communicate with our multi-national team. Fluent in Mandarin and/or Cantonese. Experience in working with Far-East OEM/ODM external vendors. Strong analytical and geometric problem-solving ability and able to document decisions clearly and present complex technical information concisely

Composure, conflict management, timely decision making, listening skills, self-motivation, and perseverance are all requirements of this position. Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, team oriented, new product development environment. Creative, and abstract thinker with a good balance to application, result-driven, accurate and quality minded. Ambition to create value for our customers.

Travel in South China region: ~25-30%

Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities.
