Infrastructure Engineer Role Overview We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to support the deployment, configuration and troubleshooting of systems across a complex enterprise infrastructure environment. The role will focus mainly on on-premises infrastructure, working with Project Managers, application teams and technical SMEs to understand how systems need to be deployed across the organisation's infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating low-level technical topologies, gathering deployment requirements, raising the relevant infrastructure requests and driving those requests through to completion. This is a broad infrastructure engineering role that requires strong technical understanding, good troubleshooting ability and the confidence to bring the right technical people together when issues need to be resolved. Key Responsibilities Support the deployment of applications and systems across enterprise infrastructure. Work with Project Managers, application owners and technical teams to understand infrastructure requirements. Create low-level technical topologies and deployment documentation. Gather information from multiple technical sources to understand how applications and systems are deployed. Raise infrastructure, network, server, database, access and platform requests through the appropriate internal processes. Track and progress requests through to completion, following up with technical teams where required. Troubleshoot deployment and infrastructure issues, coordinating the relevant SMEs to identify and resolve problems. Support technical discussions around hosting, connectivity, access, security and operational support. Document deployment requirements, dependencies, risks, decisions and outstanding actions. Ensure infrastructure changes are delivered in line with internal standards, processes and security requirements. Work across multiple concurrent requests and deployments in a complex technical environment. Required Experience Proven experience as an Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Engineer, Technical Infrastructure Engineer or similar. Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, particularly on-premises environments. Good understanding of how applications are hosted, deployed, connected and supported. Experience creating or working from low-level infrastructure topologies and technical documentation. Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, application and connectivity issues. Ability to pull technical information from different sources and ask the right questions to clarify requirements. Experience raising, managing and tracking infrastructure requests through to completion. Comfortable working with infrastructure, application, network, database and security teams. Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Well organised, delivery-focused and able to manage multiple priorities. Technical Knowledge The successful candidate should have broad knowledge across a number of the following areas: VMware Cisco ACI Fortigate NetApp Linux Windows Server NetScaler Citrix Virtualisation Databases, including Oracle, MySQL and MSSQL Active Directory Entra ID OpenShift Azure App Services Azure API Management ServiceNow Grafana Ansible CATO Networks Deep expertise across every technology is not required, but the candidate must be technically credible across infrastructure and application deployment. They should be able to understand technical designs, challenge unclear requirements, troubleshoot issues and coordinate with the right specialists when required. Ideal Candidate Profile This role would suit an Infrastructure Engineer who has worked in a large enterprise environment and is comfortable operating across multiple infrastructure domains. The ideal candidate will have a broad infrastructure background rather than being limited to one narrow specialism. They will be practical, inquisitive and technically confident, with the ability to understand how systems are deployed, document what is required and follow through until the work is completed. They should be comfortable working in an environment where requirements may not always be fully defined upfront and where they need to ask questions, gather information and work with multiple technical teams to get to the right outcome.
