Job Description About the Role: Deliver L2 operations for enterprise Linux servers, ensuring secure, stable, and compliant platforms across onprem and cloud. Responsibilities Implement/deploy servers; validate hardware/capacity; choose OS per application. Install and configure RHEL, SUSE, and Ubuntu; manage repositories and subscriptions; configure systemd; perform hardening following CIS benchmarks. Manage identity and access: users, groups, permissions (chmod/chown/ACLs), sudo; integrate AD/LDAP; secure SSH/login. Configure storage: ext4/XFS; LVM (VG/LV, extend/reduce); fstab; NFS/SMB; troubleshoot space and I/O. Network configuration: IP, DNS, gateway, bonding, VLAN, routing; firewalls (iptables, firewalld, ufw); diagnostics (ping, ss, tcpdump, traceroute). Patch and security management: apply updates; ensure compliance; configure SELinux/AppArmor; implement fail2ban and auditd; remediate vulnerabilities. Monitoring and tuning: use top/htop/vmstat/iostat/sar; integrate Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus; optimize CPU, memory, disk, and network. Backup and disaster recovery: NetBackup, Veeam, or rsync; verify restores; support DR events. Automation: create Bash scripts; schedule cron jobs; basic Ansible playbooks. Application/middleware support (basic): Apache or Nginx; DNS/NTP services; OSside troubleshooting. Virtualization and cloud operations: VMware, KVM, HyperV basics; manage AWS or Azure instances. Operations, documentation, and incident handling: log management and rotation; build SOPs; maintain inventory documentation; coordinate with vendors for firmware/BIOS updates; conduct audits (security, patch, drift); perform RCA; resolve P1/P2 incidents within SLAs; collaborate with L3 support. Required Skills & Qualifications 36 years of Linux administration experience (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu/SUSE). Proficient shell scripting; LVM/filesystem administration; networking and security fundamentals. Experience with monitoring tools, basic virtualization/cloud platforms, and Ansible. Strong troubleshooting, communication, documentation abilities, and participation in oncall rotations. Bachelor's degree in IT/CS or equivalent experience.
