Role ResponsibilitiesAcquire knowledge of the ZEISS Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and Linux client architecture and follow established processes for Incident, Service Request, Problem, and Change Management.Support, troubleshoot, administer, and maintain Linux-based virtual desktop environments and the underlying VDI infrastructure.Ensure the continuous operation, stability, availability, and performance of Linux virtual desktop services.Set up, configure, and transition new infrastructure solutions into production in collaboration with the responsible Service Owner.Provide technical support for Linux client environments, including desktop environments, LibreOffice, browserbased applications, printing services, and peripheral devices.Act as the primary technical contact for Linux virtual desktop users and operational support teams.Work closely with end users to understand issues, troubleshoot problems, and continuously improve the Linux virtual desktop user experience.Monitor infrastructure and service alerts, investigate incidents, and coordinate with Level2 and Level3 support teams where required.Analyze system, application, and infrastructure logs to identify root causes and restore services within agreed SLAs.Review and implement infrastructure changes within approved maintenance windows while ensuring complete implementation and closure documentation.Maintain incident hygiene by ensuring tickets are updated, documented, and resolved in accordance with defined ITSM processes.Collaborate with global operational support teams across the ZEISS Group to resolve complex infrastructure and client issues.Contribute to Knowledge Base creation by documenting standard procedures, known issues, and troubleshooting guides.Role Requirements3+ years of experience in IT Infrastructure Operations, System Administration, or Desktop Virtualization.Strong experience in administering Linux operating systems, preferably Ubuntu, RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES).Experience supporting Linuxbased desktop environments and troubleshooting clientside issues.Knowledge of Linux package management tools such as APT and RPM.Experience analyzing Linux system and application logs for troubleshooting and root cause analysis.Experience with desktop virtualization technologies, preferably VMware Horizon.Good knowledge of VMware vSphere/ESXi administration and virtual infrastructure troubleshooting.Experience with Linux lifecycle management including patching, upgrades, and security management.Experience in connecting and integrating storage technologies including SAN, NAS, and vSAN within virtualized environments.Familiarity with productivity applications such as LibreOffice and browserbased enterprise applications.Knowledge of enterprise IT Service Management processes including Incident, Problem, Change, and Service Request Management.Basic knowledge of infrastructure monitoring and operational support tools.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problemsolving skills.Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high accountability.Excellent verbal and written communication skills (fluent English; German is an advantage).Strong customer service mindset with excellent organizational and stakeholder management skills.Proficiency in planning, prioritizing, reporting, and managing operational activities.Willingness to support rotational 247 operational shifts and oncall support when required. .
