About the role
Job Summary: A dedicated Linux Administrator responsible for building, maintaining, and optimising Linux-based infrastructure. Ensures high availability, security, and performance of all Linux servers, mentors junior team members, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and drives automation and best practices across the environment. Key Responsibilities: - Installs, configures, and hardens Linux operating systems (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE); - Manages user accounts, groups, permissions, and SSH access in accordance with security policies; - Performs patch management, kernel upgrades, and software installations using native package managers (YUM, APT, Zypper); - Monitors system performance, analyses logs, and troubleshoots issues related to CPU, memory, storage, and network; - Designs, implements, and tests backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery procedures; - Automates routine tasks and deployments with shell scripting (Bash), Python, or configuration-management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef); - Deploys and manages virtualisation (KVM, VMware) and containerisation platforms (Docker, Kubernetes); - Integrates Linux servers with directory services (LDAP, Active Directory) and identity-management solutions; - Collaborates with network, storage, security, and application teams to support infrastructure projects and migrations; - Maintains detailed documentation of configurations, change records, and operational runbooks; - Participates in on-call rotations and responds to incidents in a 247 support model; and, - Stays current with emerging Linux technologies, security best practices, and industry standards. Required Skills & Qualifications: - Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related technology field preferred - 2+ years of hands-on Linux administration in a production environment. - Hands-on experience with scripting languages such as Shell scripting - Strong working knowledge of ITIL principles and ITSM - Current understanding of industry trends and methodologies - Outstanding verbal and written communication skills - Excellent attention to detail - Robust interpersonal skills and leadership qualities Job Summary: A dedicated Linux Administrator responsible for building, maintaining, and optimising Linux-based infrastructure.
