Software Architect (Mainframe Specialist)

As a Mainframe Expert at Amdocs, you will play a crucial role in leading the design, development, and support of complex mainframe applications. Your responsibilities will include architecting and implementing mainframe-to-cloud integrations, collaborating with cloud architects, optimizing mainframe workloads, supporting cloud-native services, guiding junior developers, ensuring system stability, and maintaining technical documentation. Additionally, you will manage stakeholder communication and support the delivery of cross-functional IT solutions. Key Responsibilities: - Lead design, development, and support of complex mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM. - Architect and implement mainframe-to-cloud integrations and assist in legacy modernization initiatives. - Collaborate with cloud architects and infrastructure teams to define and execute migration or integration strategies involving platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP. - Analyze and optimize the performance of mainframe workloads and propose modernization opportunities. - Support cloud-native services interfacing with mainframe systems via APIs, MQ, or other middleware. - Guide junior developers and act as a subject matter expert (SME) for mainframe systems. - Ensure system stability, high availability, and compliance with security policies. - Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and participate in architectural reviews. - Manage stakeholder communication and support delivery of cross-functional IT solutions. Required Skills & Qualifications: - 10+ years of experience in mainframe technologies including COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM. - Experience in system design, application performance tuning, and debugging in a large-scale enterprise environment. - Strong understanding of mainframe DevOps tools and automation. - 2+ years of experience working with or integrating cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). - Experience in cloud migration of mainframe applications or building hybrid solutions. - Familiarity with middleware technologies such as IBM MQ, APIs (REST/SOAP), and data exchange formats (JSON, XML). - Proficient in mainframe utilities (e.g., File-AID, Abend-AID, Endevor, etc.). - Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with cloud-native development, containers (Docker), or Kubernetes. - Knowledge of REXX, Assembler, or Easytrieve is a plus. - Exposure to CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git) in a mainframe or hybrid environment. Education: - Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. - Relevant certifications (e.g., IBM Certified Specialist, AWS/Azure certification) are a strong plus.
