About the role
Key Responsibilities: 1. Architecture & 32-bit to 64-bit Migration a. Lead the technical planning, execution, and validation of migrating legacy 32-bit RHEL servers to modern 64-bit RHEL OS environments. b. Identify application dependencies, 32-bit system libraries, binary compatibilities, and utilities that require re-compilation, upgrading, or refactoring for 64-bit execution. c. Design fallback mechanisms, minimal-downtime cutover plans, and post-migration validation checks. 2. Linux System Administration a. Build, configure, optimize, and maintain production Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments. b. Perform kernel tuning, swap/memory management, disk space provisioning (LVM), and resource optimization specifically tailored to 64-bit system capabilities. c. Apply security hardening standards, manage software repositories (YUM/DNF), patch vulnerabilities, and execute routine OS updates. 3. MySQL Database Management & Migration a. Support day-to-day MySQL database management, maintenance, backup, recovery, and indexing. b. Coordinate and execute live/offline data migrations, schema verifications, and engine upgrades for MySQL databases moving from 32-bit to 64-bit environments. c. Ensure data integrity, character encoding consistency, and query optimization post-migration. 4. Automation & Maintenance a. Script and automate repetitive system maintenance and migration tasks using Bash or Python. b. Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, migration runbooks, and architectural diagrams. Key Requirements: a. Core Experience: 36 years of hands-on experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux system. b. Architecture Understanding: Strong understanding of x86 (32-bit) vs. x86_64 (64-bit) architecture differences, memory limits, pointer sizes, and library linkage dependencies. c. Database Management: Hands-on experience with MySQL Administration (mysqldump, physical restores, user privileges, replication, and performance tuning). d. Computer Science Degree: B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech/M.Sc in CS/IT (giving a clear understanding of OS concepts, system calls, and file system layout). e. Scripting: Good proficiency in Shell scripting (Bash) or Python for system automation. f. Storage & Networking: Hands-on expertise with TCP/IP networking, SSH, DNS, LVM (Logical Volume Manager), and file systems (ext4, XFS). Nice to Have: a. Certifications: Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE). b. Hands-on exposure to configuration management/automation tools like Ansible c. Basic knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM) or containerization tools (Podman, Docker). Key Soft Skills a. Strong analytical and systematic troubleshooting mindset for resolving complex environment conflicts. b. Ability to work effectively with development and QA teams across multiple geographic locations. c. Clear communication skills with a structured approach to change control and operational documentation. Key Responsibilities: 1. Architecture & 32-bit to 64-bit Migration a.
