About the role
Job Responsibilities : - Lead end-to-end development of LifeAsia / Group Asia modules using COBOL and mainframe technologies. - Works with business users on translating their use cases into business and technical requirements and ensure the requirements are clear, complete and correct. - Understand, write high-quality, effective, and maintainable COBOL, JCL, VSAM/DB2 programs. - Conduct code reviews and enforce coding standards and best practices. - Ensure unit testing and system integration testing support. - Implementation of the requirements as per the agreed scope, schedule and quality as multi-tier web solutions. - Guides the Engineering team technically that includes modern technologies and imbibe the culture of good security, coding standards, architecture patterns and artefacts creation. - Ensures that the deliverables from the team are reviewed on a continuous basis, follow the best practices and adheres to the standards & guidelines. - Deliverables include Design, Developed Code, Functional & Non-functional Testing, pipeline, Deployments and Project documentation. - Leverages the best fit technologies, Tools and process to implement the business requirements. - Anticipating the technology risks and ensuring to have the contingency plans in place, suggesting improvements to the existing landscape. - Works collaboratively with other Technology teams that take care of Infrastructure, Applications and Data, to ensure we work towards a common goal to meet customers and Business satisfaction. - Architecture & solution design ownership, Team leadership / mentoring. - Stakeholder management, Delivery accountability, Governance & decision-making. Preferred Credentials : Work Experience : - Experience in Insurance Domain IT systems, process is key. - Strong hands-on expertise in COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, Mainframe development environments. - Extensive experience with LifeAsia or Group Asia (mandatory). - Knowledge of Batch scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M), Debugging and performance tuning. - Exposure to API development / integration (REST, MQ, file interfaces). - Modernization initiatives (wrapping COBOL services), Familiarity with version control tools (Git, SVN), Basic knowledge of DevOps. - Deep understanding of Life Insurance policy lifecycle, Product configuration and Claims processing workflows, Experience working with group insurance schemes (for Group Asia). Qualifications : - Graduation / Postgraduation (Engineering, IT, CS) Tier 1 Preferred. Competencies : - Strong command over COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM. - Ability to design and develop complex batch and online programs. - Expertise in performance tuning and debugging. - Deep understanding of Policy lifecycle, Claims and billing processes, Product configuration (especially in LifeAsia / Group Asia). - Ability to translate business rules into system logic. - Ability to break down complex requirements into modular, scalable solutions. - Expertise in handling legacy system constraints and dependencies. - Adherence to coding standards, code review practices. - Focus on reusability, maintainability, and low-defect delivery. - Experience in unit testing and supporting SIT/UAT cycles. - Guide developers on design, coding, and best practices. Key Performance Indicators : Qualitative : - The ability to precisely translate business requirements into technical design & solution. - Life insurance and group insurance processes knowledge. - Understanding of all procedural and technical aspects of the Engineering Team Value Delivery. - Alignment to the agreed scope, cost, schedule and quality. - Working knowledge of Agile and DevOps. - Effectiveness of the Modernization projects. Quantitative : - Timeliness in project delivery. - Excellent quality deliverables. - Responsible to align to the budget. - Maintain regular reviews with the stakeholders. - Ensuring Cost optimizations. - TAT adherence to queries and issue closure. - TAT for Project Estimations. - TAT for UAT closures.
