About the role

We are looking for an Underground Mining Engineer – Short Term Planning to support underground mine design, scheduling, and production planning. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, on a roster and working collaboratively with operational and functional teams, you will be responsible for:

Preparing mine plans and schedules to support long-range planning horizons

Developing life-of-mine designs and supporting underground development planning

Assisting with IFC design generation as needed

Supporting stope drilling and production planning activities

Participating in ventilation surveys, modeling, and analysis

Identifying improvement opportunities and supporting their implementation in partnership with the broader team

About you

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

Familiarity with safety systems and a proactive safety mindset

An undergraduate degree, preferably in Mining Engineering

Experience with 3D mine design and drafting software such as Deswik or Vulcan

Experience in underground metal mining

Well-developed analytical and technical skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization

Ability to work independently, contribute within a team, and build collaborative relationships

Intermediate computer skills, including tools such as Excel, Word, and SAP

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum, and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
