Job Description: Sr. Fabrication Project Engineer (SPM Automation) Position Title: Fabrication Project Engineer Department: Manufacturing / Production Reports To: Production Head / Operations Head Employment Type: Full-Time Job Purpose The Fabrication Project Engineer oversees the end-to-end manufacturing, welding, and assembly of heavy structural frames, base plates, and enclosures for custom Special Purpose Machines (SPMs). This role bridges the gap between mechanical design and shop-floor execution, ensuring all custom automation structures are built on time, within budget, and to exact technical specifications. Key Responsibilities 1. Production Planning & Drawing Review 1.1 Interpret complex 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings (GD&T). 1.2 Conduct Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) reviews to flag production issues. 1.3 Create Bill of Materials (BOM) and technical routing steps for raw materials. 1.4 Develop project execution schedules to align with overall machine delivery timelines. 2. Shop-Floor Execution & Quality Assurance 2.1 Oversee CNC cutting, sheet metal bending, precision welding, and machining operations. 2.2 Implement distortion control techniques for heavy, multi-axis welded structures. 2.3 Perform stage-wise inspection of machine beds for flatness, parallelism, and perpendicularity. 2.4 Ensure all structures undergo proper post-weld stress-relieving and surface treatments (powder coating, plating). 3. Cross-Functional Collaboration 3.1 Work closely with Mechanical Assembly teams to ensure smooth structural integration. 3.2 Resolve technical discrepancies on the shop floor alongside the Design Engineering team. 3.3 Enforce strict workshop safety protocols, including correct PPE usage and hot-work permits. Required Qualifications & Skills Education & Experience Degree: Bachelors degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Production, or Manufacturing Engineering. Experience: 6 years + of experience in metal fabrication, specifically within the SPM, industrial automation, or heavy machinery sectors. Technical Competencies Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling viewers. Welding Knowledge: Deep understanding of WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), MIG/TIG welding, and NDT (Non-Destructive Testing). Metrology: Expert skill in using precision instruments (vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators). Standards: Strong knowledge of ISO welding standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Soft Skills Strong project management and time-allocation abilities. Clear, assertive communication to lead shop-floor technicians. Quick, analytical problem-solving skills for handling real-time manufacturing defects.
