A Water Resources & Public Health Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing water supply and sanitation projects to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water and proper sanitation facilities This role involves assessing water resources, developing infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with public health standards The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, government agencies, and communities to improve public health outcomes related to water and sanitation Key Responsibilities:Water Resources Assessment:Conduct surveys and assessments to evaluate available water resources Analyze data to determine water quality, quantity, and sustainability Identify potential sources of water pollution and propose mitigation measures Infrastructure Design and Implementation:Design water supply and sanitation systems, considering population needs and growth projections Prepare detailed engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates Supervise construction projects, ensuring compliance with design standards and regulations Water Treatment and Distribution:Design and oversee water treatment processes to ensure the provision of clean and safe drinking water Develop distribution networks, including pipelines, pumps, and reservoirs, to supply water to communities Sanitation and Waste Management:Design and implement sanitation facilities, including sewage systems and wastewater treatment plants Promote proper waste management practices to prevent environmental contamination Compliance and Regulation:Stay updated on relevant regulations, codes, and standards related to water resources and public health engineering Ensure projects comply with local, regional, and national regulations Community Engagement and Education:Collaborate with communities to raise awareness about waterborne diseases, hygiene, and sanitation practices Conduct public education programs to promote water conservation and proper sanitation habits Data Analysis and Reporting:Collect and analyze data related to water quality, usage, and infrastructure performance Prepare reports and presentations summarizing project progress, challenges, and outcomes Emergency Response and Disaster Management:Develop contingency plans for water supply during emergencies and natural disasters Coordinate with relevant authorities to provide immediate assistance in crisis situations Qualifications:Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field Professional engineering license (PE) is preferred Strong knowledge of water resources management, hydrology, and environmental engineering principles Proficiency in relevant engineering software for design and simulation Excellent project management and communication skills Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and liaise with stakeholders Experience:Several years of experience in water resources engineering or related field Experience in managing water supply and sanitation projects from conception to completion Familiarity with public health engineering practices and standards
