Cisco SD-WAN L3 Engineer Job Description Position: Cisco SD-WAN L3 Engineer We are looking for a highly skilled Cisco SD-WAN L3 Engineer with strong expertise in Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN (Viptela), routing, security, and enterprise WAN transformation projects. The candidate will be responsible for design, deployment, troubleshooting, optimization, and operational support of large-scale SD-WAN environments. Key Responsibilities Provide L3 support for Cisco SD-WAN infrastructure and enterprise WAN environments. Design, implement, and manage Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN solutions including: o vManage o vSmart o vBond o WAN Edge routers Perform troubleshooting for: o Overlay and underlay connectivity o Control connections o OMP routing o IPsec tunnels o BFD sessions o Application-aware routing o DIA and VPN segmentation Configure and troubleshoot: o BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and static routing o NAT, QoS, ACLs, and security policies o MPLS, Internet, and LTE transports Manage SD-WAN templates, policies, software upgrades, and certificate management. Work on migration activities from traditional WAN to SD-WAN architecture. Handle critical incidents, RCA preparation, and proactive performance optimization. Collaborate with cross-functional teams for security, wireless, cloud, and datacenter integrations. Coordinate with OEM TAC teams during major outages and escalations. Create HLD/LLD, SOPs, implementation plans, and operational documentation. Participate in change management, maintenance activities, and customer review meetings. Required Skills Strong hands-on expertise in: o Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN / Viptela o Cisco ISR/ASR platforms o Routing & Switching technologies o WAN and VPN technologies Excellent knowledge of: o OMP, BFD, TLOCs, Control Policies, Data Policies o IPsec and segmentation o QoS and Application-aware routing o TCP/IP and packet analysis Experience with: o SD-WAN onboarding and ZTP o Multi-site enterprise WAN deployments o High availability and failover design Good understanding of automation and APIs is an added advantage: o Python o REST APIs o Ansible Cisco SD-WAN architecture primarily consists of management, orchestration, control, and data planes using components such as vManage, vBond, and vSmart. Preferred Certifications Cisco Systems Certified: o CCNP Enterprise o ENSDWI (Implementing Cisco SD-WAN Solutions) o CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure (preferred) Experience 612 years of overall networking experience. Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience in Cisco SD-WAN deployments and operations. Good to Have Experience in managed services or large enterprise environments. Exposure to cloud connectivity (AWS, Azure, GCP). Knowledge of Cisco Umbrella, Secure Access, or SASE solutions. Experience with multivendor SD-WAN environments. Soft Skills Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. Ability to handle customer-facing discussions and escalations. Good communication and documentation skills. Ability to mentor L1/L2 engineers and drive operational excellence.
