Senior Product Engineer

Role Overview: At Smart Working, we are seeking a Senior Product Engineer with experience in high-performing venture capital-backed startups to contribute to shaping and building impactful technology products. As part of a collaborative and hands-on engineering role, you will work across infrastructure, backend, frontend, and AI-powered systems in close partnership with various teams to deliver meaningful features that address real-world challenges. Key Responsibilities: - Design, build, and maintain scalable full stack applications spanning across frontend, backend, and infrastructure layers. - Collaborate with Product, Design, Commercial, and Analytics teams to define and implement impactful new features. - Develop internal tools and operational systems to enhance efficiency and scalability across the organization. - Integrate AI-powered workflows and LLM-based solutions using modern generative AI tooling. - Evaluate and optimize the use of LLMs and AI systems across products and internal processes. - Contribute to architectural decisions, scalability improvements, and platform evolution. - Create high-quality user experiences utilizing modern frontend technologies and design systems. - Design and uphold reliable backend systems, APIs, and data structures. - Identify appropriate tools and approaches for different problems while working with evolving technologies. - Engage in retrospectives, knowledge sharing, and initiatives for continuous improvement. - Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and psychologically safe engineering culture. - Contribute to the delivery of products that have a meaningful real-world impact for end users. Qualifications Required: - 6+ years of professional software engineering experience encompassing frontend and backend systems. - 4+ years of experience in building and maintaining production-grade full stack applications. - Proficiency (3+ years) in modern frontend frameworks like React and TypeScript. - Backend development experience (3+ years) with technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Node.js, Python, or similar. - Hands-on experience (3+ years) with relational databases like PostgreSQL. - Familiarity (2+ years) with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure. - Previous experience in a venture capital-backed startup environment in the US or UK. - Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-growth product organizations with evolving priorities and rapid delivery cycles. - Strong understanding of scalable architecture, system design, data structures, and maintainable software engineering practices. - Practical use of AI development tools and LLM platforms like OpenAI, Claude, Cursor, Copilot, or similar in engineering workflows. - Experience in integrating APIs and third-party systems into production applications. - A product-oriented mindset balancing technical decisions with customer and business outcomes. - Exposure to cross-functional collaboration and communication in a team environment.
