About the role
As a Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI Specialist in the FP&A team, your role is to modernize how the Finance team plans, forecasts, and reports. You will utilize modern data tools and AI to identify signals earlier and respond faster to changes in inventory, COGS, distribution costs, supplier terms, and customer demand. Your tasks will involve transitioning analysts from manual, spreadsheet-heavy work to automated, AI-assisted workflows and creating forecasts, dashboards, and AI assistants to revolutionize how Finance collaborates with the business. Your expertise with tools like Snowflake, Planful, Python, Power BI, and modern LLMs will be pivotal in making these tools practical and beneficial for the FP&A team. Key Responsibilities: - Build the FP&A data foundation by consolidating GL (SAP Business One), planning (Planful), sales and customer data (Salesforce), T&E (Expensify), and procurement spend (Procurify) into a single, reliable finance dataset in Snowflake, ensuring it is well-documented and ready for analysis. - Modernize forecasting and scenario planning by replacing static budgets with rolling, driver-based forecasts for various aspects such as revenue, COGS, opex, headcount, inventory, and cash. Develop scenario models to visualize the impact of demand shifts, pricing, supplier costs, and FX and integrate the outputs back into Planful for a streamlined planning cycle. - Integrate AI assistants into FP&A workflows to automate variance commentary drafting, result summarization, ad-hoc finance question answering, and repetitive reporting tasks, with a human review step always in place. - Identify anomalies before they escalate by building models that detect unusual GL postings, outlier expenses, and forecast drift to address issues proactively during the period. - Collaborate across the business to translate Finance priorities into practical data and AI solutions, liaise with IT, Data, and Security teams on tools, access, and architecture, and communicate risks and tradeoffs clearly to non-technical stakeholders. - Facilitate the growth of the FP&A team through hands-on workshops on SQL, Python, no-code/low-code tools, prompt engineering, and AI agents to enhance their confidence in utilizing these tools daily. - Ensure complex tools are user-friendly by making data warehousing, ML, and AI agents accessible to colleagues with diverse technical backgrounds, focusing on demystification rather than complexity. - Maintain governance and audit readiness by advocating for clear standards in AI use, certified data sources, model explainability, audit trails, and access controls, and collaborating with Internal Audit and IT Security to align our analytical work with SOX requirements. Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field. - 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience in Python and SQL utilized in FP&A, finance analytics, or technical consulting work. - Practical experience in building forecasting, classification, or anomaly-detection models and implementing them effectively. - Proficiency in working with cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, modern data pipelines, and LLMs / GenAI within analytical workflows. - Strong command of Power BI for creating dashboards and reporting. - Knowledge of finance controls, SOX compliance, and the importance of audit trails in analytical and AI-enabled settings. Preferred Qualifications: - Hands-on familiarity with tools such as Snowflake (Snowpark, Cortex), Planful, Salesforce, SAP Business One, Expensify, or Procurify, or similar EPM, ERP, T&E, and procurement systems. - Experience with no-code / low-code tools (e.g., Dataiku, Alteryx, Power Automate) that aid non-technical users in getting started. - Proficiency in AI agents, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or fine-tuning LLMs for finance applications. - Understanding of data governance, data privacy, and security, especially concerning LLM usage. - Previous experience in a manufacturing or distribution business involving inventory, COGS, supplier, and customer data is advantageous.
