Position: Project Manager Electrical (GIS Substation) Department: Projects Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Experience: 12–20 Years Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Preferred) Job Location: Project Sites ( Karnataka & Chhattisgarh) Role Summary The Project Manager – Electrical will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of 132/33/6.6 kV and above GIS Substation EPC projects. The role includes project planning, engineering coordination, procurement follow-up, erection, testing, commissioning, quality assurance, safety compliance, cost control, client coordination, and timely project completion. The Project Manager will lead multidisciplinary teams and ensure successful delivery of projects within scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards. Key Responsibilities 1. Project Planning & Execution Lead the complete execution of GIS Substation EPC projects from project handover to final commissioning. Develop detailed project execution plans, schedules, resource allocation plans, and milestone tracking. Monitor project progress and ensure completion within contractual timelines. Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning activities. Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies. 2. Engineering & Technical Coordination Review and approve engineering documents, including: Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) General Arrangement (GA) Drawings Equipment Layouts Cable Schedules Protection Schemes Interface Drawings Coordinate with engineering teams, OEMs, consultants, and clients to resolve technical issues. Ensure compliance with IEC, IS, utility specifications, and project requirements. 3. Site Execution Management Supervise erection of: 132 kV GIS Bays 33 kV & 6.6 kV GIS Panels Power & Auxiliary Transformers Control & Relay Panels Battery Banks and Chargers AC/DC Distribution Systems Earthing and Lightning Protection Systems Ensure execution follows approved drawings, quality standards, and safety procedures. Monitor productivity, manpower deployment, and subcontractor performance. 4. Testing & Commissioning Oversee testing and commissioning of all primary and secondary systems. Coordinate with OEM engineers for protection relay testing, SAS, SCADA, and IEC-61850 integration. Ensure successful cold commissioning, hot commissioning, load trials, and system energization. Review commissioning reports and final handover documentation. 5. Project Controls Monitor project budgets, cash flow, and resource utilization. Review BOQs, measurement sheets, billing quantities, and subcontractor invoices. Track project costs and recommend corrective actions where required. Ensure timely certification of RA bills and client invoicing. 6. Quality Management Implement the Project Quality Plan (PQP) and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs). Ensure compliance with approved Quality Assurance Plans (QAP). Monitor WIR/MIR approvals and closure of punch points. Conduct internal quality audits and ensure documentation is complete. 7. Safety Management Promote a zero-incident safety culture across the project. Ensure compliance with HSE policies, statutory regulations, and client safety requirements. Implement Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), and GIS SF gas handling procedures. Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and corrective actions. 8. Client & Stakeholder Management Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, OEMs, and statutory authorities. Conduct project review meetings and submit daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports. Manage contractual obligations, technical clarifications, and change orders. Ensure timely resolution of client observations and project issues. 9. Team Leadership Lead site engineers, testing engineers, supervisors, technicians, and subcontractors. Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance. Mentor junior engineers and promote continuous technical development. Foster collaboration, accountability, and adherence to project objectives. Required Skills & Competencies 10–15 years of experience in EPC execution of 132 kV and above GIS Substation projects. Proven experience managing complete substation projects from mobilization to final commissioning. Strong technical knowledge of GIS systems from Siemens, ABB, GE, Hyosung, Mitsubishi, or equivalent OEMs. Expertise in: GIS Substation Engineering Protection Systems SCADA & SAS IEC-61850 Communication Testing & Commissioning Strong understanding of EPC contracts, BOQs, project scheduling, and cost control. Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills. Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and deliver projects under demanding timelines. Proficiency in MS Project, Primavera P6, Microsoft Excel, and project reporting tools. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing multiple GIS Substation projects simultaneously. PMP or equivalent Project Management certification is an added advantage. Knowledge of utility regulations and statutory approvals. Experience working with government utilities, transmission companies, or large EPC contractors. Willingness to travel and work across project locations in India. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) On-time completion of project milestones. Successful commissioning and handover of substations. Budget adherence and effective cost control. Zero major safety incidents. Compliance with quality standards and project documentation. Client satisfaction and timely closure of contractual deliverables. Efficient utilization of manpower, equipment, and project resources.
