About the role
Role Overview: You will be joining the Database Operations team at Charles River Development, a State Street Company, as a Senior Azure Database Performance Engineer. Your main responsibility will be to ensure the availability and optimization of MSSQL databases in both Hosted and IaaS SQL VM in Azure, with experience in Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance. Your role will involve monitoring performance on application databases, queries, and continuous tuning. Additionally, you will collaborate with various stakeholders to identify and resolve issues related to MSSQL, maintain technical standards, and optimize database performance and reliability. Key Responsibilities: - Ensure the availability and optimization of MSSQL databases in Hosted and IaaS SQL VM in Azure, including experience with Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance. Snowflake experience is a plus. - Monitor performance on application databases and queries, suggesting and applying continuous tuning. - Collaborate with application teams and stakeholders to identify MSSQL-related issues. - Follow technical standards and operational procedures to meet database performance, High Availability, replication, scalability, and security requirements in hosted and cloud environments. - Design and troubleshoot real-time MSSQL related issues. - Establish and maintain standards for application design and code integrity, security, and performance. - Provide technical support to application development teams when necessary. - Assist in resolving priority incidents, root-cause analysis, and support subsequent corrective and preventative actions. - Collaborate with Database manager and various Application support teams to optimize database performance and reliability. - Encouraged to acquire relevant Azure certifications. - Maintain and adhere to CRD technical standards, policies, and procedures. Qualifications Required: - Bachelors degree in computer science or a related technical field. - 8+ years of experience working with large MS SQL Server databases and Snowflake in a production environment. - Strong performance tuning experience using tools like SolarWinds, Query Store, and Extended Events. - Hands-on experience operating MS SQL servers and related technologies in Azure. - Good understanding of database encryption, high-availability, disaster recovery, replication, backup/restore. - Detailed oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Strong sense of customer service, attention to detail, and issue ownership. - Understanding of ITIL concepts desired.
