About the role
Must-Have: Payment Systems Experience Demonstrated experience designing and building payment gateways, settlement engines, or core transaction processing systems from the ground up, as distinct from integration with third-party payment providers. This is a mandatory requirement for the role. What You'll Do - Own the translation layer between business requirements and engineering execution writing Technical Implementation Plans that give developers a exact build reference before any code is written - Review every Merge Request for build quality and technical soundness, with same-day turnaround - Act as the single source of technical truth for developers and QA resolving implementation questions with clear, documented answers - Own database schema design and migrations, escalating significant architectural changes to the Architecture Review Board - Author API contracts for new features so frontend and backend build to the same spec, avoiding integration surprises - Chair/serve on the Architecture Review Board, evaluating major technical changes new services, integrations, authentication, schema redesigns before they're built - Coordinate security and compliance review for features touching authentication, PII, or payment flows - Configure and maintain static code analysis, enforcing security and quality standards automatically - Confirm pre-production environments are fully synced with production including data masking and security controls before every release - Step in as Incident Commander for production issues, leading root cause analysis and providing written rollback recommendations What We're Looking For - Strong software engineering background across the full lifecycle technical design, code review, production support - Working knowledge of PCI DSS compliance and secure handling of financial/personal data - Comfort owning architectural and database decisions, and explaining technical rationale to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders - Experience with API design, contract-first development, and Test-Driven Development Must-Have: Payment Systems Experience Demonstrated experience designing and building payment gateways, settlement engines, or core transaction processing systems from the ground up, as distinct from integration with third-party payment providers.
