About the role
We are a rapid-growing FMCG business looking for a strong, hands-on engineer to build and own the systems behind our sales operations.This is not a traditional Data Engineer role. We are looking for someone who enjoys solving business problems through technology - someone who can write code, build internal tools, automate workflows, connect business systems, and transform data into actionable business insights.You will work directly with the Founder to design and build scalable technology solutions that improve the way our business operates. This is a high-ownership engineering role where you will have the freedom to build, improve and create and not just maintain existing systems. About the Role: What youll Build As our Business Systems Engineer, you will help create the technology backbone that supports our sales and business operations. An indicative list of work will include: - Internal business applications - Data pipelines and reporting systems - Sales dashboards and business intelligence - Workflow automation - AI-powered productivity solutions - Integrations between ERP, CRM and other business systems Key Responsibilities: Build & Own Business Systems - Build and own the data, automation and business systems that support our sales organisation. - Design scalable solutions that improve operational efficiency and reduce manual work. - Continuously improve internal processes through technology. Data Engineering & Analytics - Write Python and SQL code to collect, clean, transform and organise data from multiple business sources. - Build reliable data pipelines that bring together information from ERP, CRM, spreadsheets and other operational systems. - Ensure business data remains accurate, organised and reliable. Dashboards & Decision Support - Develop dashboards, reports and internal tools that leadership uses to monitor business performance. - Convert raw business data into meaningful insights that support faster decision-making. Automation & Integrations - Integrate different business applications using APIs and automation tools. - Identify repetitive business processes and automate them wherever possible. - Build lightweight internal applications that improve productivity across teams. AI & Technology - Leverage modern AI tools to accelerate development, automate workflows and improve business productivity. - Evaluate emerging technologies that can create measurable business value. - Ensure AI-generated outputs are validated for quality and accuracy. Ownership - Own projects from idea through implementation. - Work directly with the Founder and business stakeholders to understand problems and deliver practical technology solutions. - Take complete ownership of the systems you build and continuously improve them. What We're Looking For We care far more about problem-solving ability and ownership than familiarity with one specific technology. We're looking for someone who enjoys building things, learns quickly and can independently solve technical challenges Technical Skills - Strong programming skills (preferably Python) - Strong SQL and database fundamentals - Experience working with APIs and system integrations - Ability to build internal applications and automation workflows - Experience developing dashboards and reporting solutions - Good understanding of relational databases - Comfortable working across multiple technologies Mindset - Enjoys building products and solving business problems - Can quickly understand unfamiliar systems and technologies - Takes ownership from start to finish - Communicates technical concepts in simple language - Is naturally curious and enjoys continuous learning - Uses AI tools thoughtfully to improve speed and productivity Technologies You'll Work With While experience in every technology isn't mandatory, exposure to the following will be valuable: - Python - SQL - REST APIs - Power BI / Tableau / Looker Studio - PostgreSQL / MySQL - ERP & CRM Systems - Git - Automation Platforms (n8n, Zapier, Power Automate or similar) - AI Tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) Good to Have - Experience in FMCG, Sales or Distribution businesses - Experience integrating multiple business systems - Experience building internal business tools from scratch - Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP - Experience working independently or as an early engineering hire .
