About the internship: Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include: Designing and developing mechanical components, housings, and internal structures for an AI-powered companion robot used in healthcare. Designing mechanical mounts and adjustable optical assemblies for a compact internal projector system. Collaborating on the design of optical pathways, helping to select mirrors and lenses to redirect projected images inside a compact robotic head. Creating detailed CAD models to ensure seamless integration of optical and mechanical hardware. Building and testing working prototypes to evaluate image quality, focus, projection angle, and structural integrity. Collaborating with AI, electronics, and other engineering teams to meet spatial and functional constraints. Familiarity with optical simulation or ray tracing software (e.g., Zemax, OpticStudio, Code V, LightTools) is a strong advantage. Experience or interest in camera calibration, optical alignment, or projection illumination design. Ability to work independently in a remote role while communicating effectively with our UK-based engineering team.
