Job Summary Synechron is seeking an experienced Technical SME (Java + Payments) to provide technical leadership across payments-focused initiatives. The role combines deep Java expertise with a strong payments domain background to guide architecture, design, and delivery of enterprise-grade solutions. The SME will work across multiple locations with cross-functional teams, ensure governance and compliance, drive modernization efforts, and influence the technical roadmap to support growth and regulatory alignment. This role also emphasizes collaboration, stakeholder management, and delivering measurable business value.

Software Requirements

Required Skills (Essential) Extensive development and leadership experience in Java and Java EE platforms (7–9 years total)

Deep understanding of Java ecosystems (Spring, Hibernate, JSF) and enterprise integration patterns

Strong knowledge of payments processing, messaging standards, and card-based transactions

Proficiency in designing and integrating RESTful APIs and payment interfaces

Advanced SQL and data modeling skills for banking/payments data (MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL)

Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence)

Ability to define technical requirements, write BRDs/IAAs, and provide architectural oversight

Proficiency with SDLC/Agile methodologies and working with cross-functional teams

Experience with patching, deployment, and test planning in complex environments

Preferred Skills Cloud deployment experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) in banking/payments contexts

Containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and release governance

Banking/regulatory awareness and data security considerations

Finacle/other core banking integrations experience is a plus

Overall Responsibilities Provide technical leadership for Java-based payments projects across teams and locations

Define, validate, and socialize technical requirements, architecture, and integration strategies

Mentor and coach engineers, developers, and analysts to elevate technical capabilities

Review architectural documents, BRDs, IA/Gap analyses, and project plans to ensure alignment with strategy and standards

Guide product enhancements in collaboration with product management and business stakeholders

Oversee platform design for performance, security, scalability, and reliability

Lead engineering reviews, testing strategies, and deployment practices

Manage vendor interactions, governance, and risk mitigation related to technology initiatives

Maintain and communicate technology roadmaps, standards, and best practices

Ensure modifications are engineered, developed, tested, and packaged correctly; supervise installation if required

Own the quality and delivery of complex projects; manage system and application problems and escalate as needed

Facilitate information flow to project managers and business owners for resource and planning decisions

Oversee the technical direction of projects and serve as a primary technical contact for development teams

Participate in channel testing, test plans, and go-live activities

Demonstrated success delivering enterprise-scale Java/payments solutions with cross-functional teams

Experience working in regulated environments and governance/risk considerations

Ability to influence stakeholders and drive complex initiatives across multiple teams

Alternative pathways: extensive hands-on payments projects, architectural certifications, or recognized industry credentials

Day-to-Day Activities Translate business requirements into scalable technical designs and implementation plans

Lead cross-functional teams in planning, design reviews, and delivery

Review code, architectures, and integration designs; provide feedback for quality and risk mitigation

Collaborate with QA, security, and operations on testing, deployment, and monitoring

Mentor and develop junior engineers; share best practices and reusable patterns

Maintain comprehensive documentation, architecture diagrams, deployment guides, and governance artifacts

Monitor progress against plan, identify risks, and escalate issues as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

  • 7-9 years of experience in technology leadership and payments-focused development

  • Certifications in architecture, cloud platforms, or payments technology are advantageous

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development in banking technology solutions
