Data Operations Engineer

Job Summary:

Oxford client is seeking a Data Operations Engineer to support and maintain enterprise data platforms and pipelines within a fast-paced R&D environment.

This individual will serve as the technical backbone of the DataOps function, responsible for resolving data pipeline failures, improving platform reliability, and driving operational automation.

The ideal candidate will combine data engineering, software development, and systems administration expertise to ensure the stability, scalability, and performance of critical data systems.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, triage, and resolve escalated incidents related to data pipelines, platform performance, and data quality

• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring issues and implement permanent corrective actions

• Develop and maintain automation scripts to reduce manual operational work and improve system reliability

• Optimize monitoring, logging, and alerting across data platforms

• Support minor platform enhancements and bug fixes

• Collaborate with development teams to ensure smooth deployment and production support of new features

• Partner with IT, data engineering, and business stakeholders to maintain healthy and scalable data operations

• Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

• 3+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, systems administration, or DataOps

• Strong SQL skills

• Proficiency with Python or another scripting language

• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Databricks, or similar cloud-based data platforms

• Experience with data pipeline orchestration and scheduling tools

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

• Experience working with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools

• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting enterprise-scale data platforms

• Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceutical, healthcare, biotech, or life sciences

• Experience driving automation initiatives and operational efficiency improvements

• Understanding of production support and platform reliability best practices

• Experience working within cross-functional engineering and business teams
