Role: Linux Kernel Testing Engineer Experience: 4-8 Years Location: Bangalore Job Summary : Our client is a technology-driven organization focused on building scalable, high-performance software solutions for data-intensive and computationally demanding environments. They are seeking a Linux Kernel Engineer with strong experience in Linux kernel validation, system-level testing, automation, and debugging. The ideal candidate should have hands-on expertise in Linux kernel build and integration, kernel subsystem validation, test automation using Shell/Python, and root cause analysis. The role involves validating kernel features, automating test execution, debugging issues, and collaborating with development teams to ensure high-quality kernel releases. Key Responsibilities Perform Linux kernel build, integration, validation, and boot testing. Design and execute functional, regression, stress, and stability tests. Validate Linux kernel subsystems such as Process Scheduler, Memory Management, Device Drivers, Networking, Storage (NVMe/SCSI), KVM/QEMU, Power Management, and Filesystems. Develop and maintain test automation using Shell scripting, Python, Jenkins, and Linux testing frameworks (LTP, Avocado, stress-ng). Analyze kernel logs (dmesg/syslog), crash logs, and traces to perform debugging and root cause analysis using tools such as perf, strace, vmstat, sar, and ftrace. Manage Linux kernel source code using Git, including branch management, patch integration, and regression analysis (git log, git blame, git bisect). Collaborate with development teams to reproduce, debug, and resolve kernel issues. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to test planning, defect triaging, and technical reviews. Required Skills Strong experience in Linux kernel build, compilation, configuration, and kernel module management. Hands-on experience in Linux kernel testing, validation, and debugging. Proficiency in Shell scripting and Python for test automation. Experience with Git, Jenkins CI/CD, and Linux kernel testing tools such as LTP, Avocado, and stress-ng.
