The Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis (IRSA) is looking for an individual who will support the unit’s mission of providing accurate and timely data to inform decision-making on campus

The Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis (IRSA) is looking for an individual who will support the unit’s mission of providing accurate and timely data to inform decision-making on campus. IRSA has enhanced our reporting and business intelligence capabilities and is searching for a candidate with proven experience conducting research in higher education and developing Power BI reports. This position will become the primary lead for reporting IRSA’s employee data. A review of applications will occur no later than mid-August.

Education Masters degree in higher education, educational research, behavioral sciences, business, computer science or related fields

Experience: 2 or more years analytical / reporting experience

Two years experience developing Power BI reports

Two years experience writing SQL code

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to write complex SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and analyze datasets

Expertise in using Power BI (and other MS technologies) to create reporting solutions

Ability to apply strong analytical and critical thinking skills

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: Analytical / reporting experience in an institution of higher education

  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of the field of Institutional Research

  • Familiarity with Banner Student systems

  • Work Location: In-office (Knoxville, TN) with opportunity for some days/week working remotely.

Compensation and Benefits

  • UT market range: MR12

  • Anticipated hiring range: $75,000 - $80,000

About THE College/department/division

The mission of the Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analysis (IRSA) is to foster a culture of evidence and continuous improvement by providing accurate and timely data and information to university administrators, departments, and faculty to inform their decision-making.

Conducts descriptive studies and produces ad-hoc reports pertaining to faculty, students, staff, and the instructional process. Write queries to extract and gather data

Synthesize and analyze data from multiple sources

Determine the most appropriate way to display data

Primary focus toward supporting employee (faculty and staff) reporting and research

Assists in the collection and reporting of university data to state and federal agencies, benchmarking studies, data exchanges, other external survey organizations, and with production of the Fact Book. Responsible for preparing faculty and staff data for IPEDS submission

Create and maintain Power BI dashboards. Evaluate current and future data needs and implement procedures and best practices to ensure data quality

Use innovative solutions to solve problems and modify solutions

Assists in the creation and maintenance of internal OIRA data. Works primarily with employee data, by monitoring data quality and creating reporting fields in internal databases

Aid in data governance efforts, assisting with data quality monitoring, and training users of our data

Identifies, designs, and conducts complex analytical studies and projects.
