About the role
Role Summary To ensure efficient water treatment plant operations, accurate analytical laboratory testing of water, fuel, ash, chemicals, and adherence to statutory and environmental compliance by monitoring water chemistry, supporting plant operations, and maintaining regulatory reporting. Key Responsibilities #Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Monitoring Monitor operation of DM plant, RO system, softeners, and filtration units. Ensure continuous availability of treated water for boiler and plant use. Identify inefficiencies in WTP operations and recommend corrective actions. #Boiler & Cooling Water Quality Control Monitor critical parameters such as pH, conductivity, TDS, Silica, hardness, alkalinity, Dissolved oxygen, and phosphate levels Ensure boiler water quality is within prescribed limits to avoid scaling, corrosion, and fouling. Coordinate with operations team for chemical dosing and adjustments. #Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) & Environmental Monitoring Monitor Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) operations. Ensure zero liquid discharge (if applicable) or compliant discharge levels. Track environmental parameters such as pH, BOD, COD, TDS. Hardness, suspended solids, Residual Chlorine, etc. Support initiatives for water conservation and reuse. #Laboratory Sampling & Analysis Conduct routine and special tests for Coal (GCV, ash, moisture), Water (Raw, Ro/DM., Boiler, Cooling water, ETP water), Oil/Grease and other consumables. Maintain lab equipment calibration and accuracy. Record, analyze, and validate test results. #Inventory & Chemical Management Track consumption of treatment chemicals (HCL, lime, alum, resins, and dosing chemicals) to maintain optimum inventory levels. Support procurement planning. #Statutory & Environmental Compliance Ensure compliance with norms of Pollution Control Board (SPCB/CPCB), Boiler Inspectorate, and water and air quality standards. Prepare and submit statutory reports on Effluent discharge, Water consumption, and emission-related parameters (as applicable) #Data Analysis, Reporting & Audit support Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly MIS reports on Water consumption and treatment efficiency, Chemical consumption trends, and compliance status. Analyze deviations and recommend improvements. Coordinate with O&M, environment, and safety teams. Support internal and external audits (environmental/statutory). Maintain records for audits and inspections and ensure documentation readiness and traceability. Preferred candidate profile At least 10 years in Thermal (Captive / IPP) Power Plant with 5+ years in leading the WTP & Lab Testing functions. Knowledge of water treatment processes (DM, RO, ETP) Strong understanding of water Chemistry, treatment technologies, SPCB/CPCB Environmental Legislation, proper handling of hazardous chemicals, and MSDS compliance SCADA/PLC based operation and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Understanding of boiler water chemistry Familiarity with environmental norms and compliance Strong team management and troubleshooting skills Strong analytical and laboratory skills Proficiency in MS Excel and reporting tools Attention to detail and documentation accuracy
