How will you make an impact?

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Scientist to provide technical leadership for the production of cutting-edge analytical instrumentation in an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment. You will support existing products while leading New Product Introduction (NPI) from pilot builds through production, partnering with R&D, Design Engineering, suppliers, and Manufacturing to ensure successful technology transfer and robust, manufacturable designs.

Job Responsibilities Serve as the technical leader for Manufacturing Engineering, resolving systemic production issues for mass spectrometry instrumentation. Lead New Product Introduction (NPI), including system test development and technology transfer into manufacturing. Develop manufacturing processes and drive process improvements with suppliers. Conduct failure analysis and lead root-cause investigations supporting CAPA and customer issues. Develop and implement advanced analytics and AI solutions to improve testing and troubleshooting. Review and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs). Create and maintain work instructions, process documentation, and Device History Records (DHRs), and train technicians and manufacturing engineers. Review and disposition nonconforming materials. Design and implement production test equipment and fixtures. Provide technical support to suppliers. Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, manufacturing capacity, and supply chain optimization.

Required Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related field required. Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent experience preferred. 3+ years of experience in instrumentation design, development, or engineering. Strong troubleshooting skills supporting complex analytical instrumentation. Knowledge of chromatography and mass spectrometry principles; hands-on experience with LC/MS systems or components is highly desirable. Proficiency with electrical test equipment (e.g., digital multimeters, oscilloscopes) and engineering drawings. Experience with engineering documentation, change control, and risk assessments. Experience with LC/MS hardware and software is preferred. Familiarity with Python, Lua, C#, C++, or similar programming languages. Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (e.g., ISO 9001); SAP experience is a plus. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.

Skills & Critical Competencies

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE), process controls, and statistical analysis. Proven leadership in cross-functional technical teams. Excellent communication, organizational, presentation, and project management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and the New Product Introduction (NPI) process. Self-motivated with sound decision-making and a continuous improvement mindset. Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar quality methodologies.
