About the role
Title: AWS System Administrator Duration: 6 months + contract Location: Remote in EST Summary: System Administrator Job Overview The Office of Data & Digital Technology (ODDT) is in the process of rolling out a new Longitudinal Data System (LDS) platform across Commonwealth agencies for research and analytics purposes. This position will be responsible for all tasks associated with the on-going need to manage the cloud infrastructure and services supporting the Longitudinal Data System. The position will manage the Longitudinal Data System infrastructure and application environments deployed by ODDT. Job Responsibilities • Assist ETSO with the deployment of a DEV, Test, and Production Longitudinal Data System (LDS) environments • Manages the LDS infrastructure and services deployed on an AWS cloud environment (EC2, S3, Glue, Data Lake, API Gateway, Athena, QuickSite, Direct Connect, CloudWatch, etc.) • Manages user identity and access management. Manages user and user group permissions to infrastructure and service components • Configures proactive monitoring services for the LDS platform • Monitors infrastructure and services performance and troubleshoots/resolves any errors • Monitors environment as required • Responsible for automating administrative tasks • Applies system/services updates and expansions as required • Works with AWS and ETSO support and centralizes support tickets for mission critical customers • Tests and implements new technical solutions • Assists ETSO in building, operating, and maintaining PALDS infrastructure ensuring adherence to Service Level Agreements • Assists ETSO in troubleshooting problems with networks, web services, mail services and all general aspects of a cloud-based solution • Assists ETSO in monitoring system logs and activity on servers and devices • Assists ETSO in planning new server deployments and documentation of server builds • Assists ETSO in developing disaster recovery and failover strategies for the LDS environment • Other system administration duties as assigned Qualifications • BS in Information Systems/Computer Science and or equivalent work experience • RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) • LPIC -1 (Linux Professional Institute Certification Level 1) • LPIC-2 (Linux Professional Institute Certification Level 2) • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional • Experience with AWS cloud and services support • Experience managing large scale high transaction data storage, integration services, and analytics environments • 3 years providing technical support for cloud-based systems and applications required • 3 years setting up and configuring new cloud-based environments required • 3 years maintaining and troubleshooting cloud-based systems and applications required • 3 years monitoring and optimizing the performance of the cloud-based infrastructure required • 3 years developing and implementing backup and recovery strategies required • 3 years ensuring compliance with security and regulatory standards required • 3 years providing guidance and best practices for using the AWS platform required • 3 years strong technical skills, including experience with operating systems, networking, and virtualization required • 3 years proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, CDK required
