Principal Data Architect remote 6 month contract to hire This person must be well versed in all aspects of data architecture, as well as microservices and event driven architectures. We are looking for someone with experience working in eCommerce. Cloud experience is also very important. They should be experts with cloud native/public cloud, building roadmaps, influencing C suite level, architecture design patterns, etc. We are looking for someone who has had a principal architect title previously.

PURPOSE: Principal Data Architect will work closely with the VP, Data Services to set the data architecture strategy and standards for data governance and data service solution delivery that is tightly linked to UNFI’s business strategy and roadmap. This role is expected to build strong relationships within IT and business partners, with a focus on collaboration and direct communication. This position will aid the department in meeting the company’s strategic business goals. This role will also be responsible for partnering with business teams to provide strategic program execution and solution design including product traceability. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: · Creates the future state architecture, drive the Architectural best practices, and lead the execution and strategy of the Architectural Roadmap. · Build an data architecture standards that aligns with enterprise and industry best practices and ensures architectural patterns which meet the needs of data solution delivery across the enterprise. This includes providing Solution Architecture and standards for product traceability and cloud data platform architecture. · Collaborate with IT and Business peers and define target state technology and solution architecture and roadmaps that enable business imperatives while building on modern data architecture principals and data landscape modernization. · Prepares and delivers comprehensive communications to convey architectural direction and how it aligns with enterprise strategy · Communicates effectively across the organization. Influences direction and strategy development through ongoing and formal and informal communications within and outside stakeholders. · Manages data capabilities and standards within UNFI and UNFI business partners via internal data governance committee. · Performs other duties as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education/Certification: · Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. · Master’s in IT Management strongly preferred. Experience: · Minimum of 15 years of Information Technology experience required. · 15-20 years of relevant Information Technology experience preferred. · 10+ years of experience with enterprise architecture, data architecture, software architecture and design patterns. · 7+ years of experience with complex architectural patterns (SOA), building APIs, microservices, and event driven design. · 5+ years of relevant experience in other retail or consumer packaged goods companies. · Deep experience with software design and delivery on cloud platforms (like AWS) with an understanding of economic and business models for software in the cloud. · Organizational and transformational leadership experience in an agile operating model. Knowledge: · Has depth and breadth of knowledge across multiple software engineering disciplines · Extensive knowledge of Cloud Native Architectures, in particular architecting enterprise applications on public cloud such as AWS, GCP or Azure. · Extensive knowledge of m\eCommerce in a retail or wholesale organization. Skills/Abilities: · Proven ability in the development of strategic technology direction and architecture vision for a large organization · Deep understanding of eCommerce architecture strategy and design. · Proven track record of Influencing C-level leadership. · Demonstrated ability to create top performing teams and lead through example. · Strong analytical, problems-solving and conceptual skills. · Strong project management skills; experience organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from vision through implementation, involving internal and external resources. · Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and influence at all management levels and with both technical and non-technical individuals and successfully manage in a cross-functional environment and remote locations. · Strong leadership and communication skills with a focus on the ability to leverage technology as a business enabler.
