Job Title: Data Architect Location: Richmond,VA Required Skills: Strong hands on Data Architect background with experience leading b. Azure experience c. Must be willing to sit onsite in Richmond in a hybrid 3 day/week model Basic Qualifications: Additional Skills: Main driver – central claims systems that data services signed up for Our main chunk is around the backbone concept Think about markel today without the backbone – 2 ways that they can ingest policies Feed data into existing systems or today you can bring it in at a high level and book it to a ledger and the processes are manual Avoid having to go through one of the older systems – JSON system is the new system and exposes it to analytics and data science Hope is to find someone local – if no luck then we can expand out Heavily involved in data architecture More of a data engineering shop than an app dev shop. More backend processes – data processes All of the solutions are built in azure – SQL data ware house, Own VPN that everything is being ingested to Our teams are new to Azure – specific experience around tuning in Azure would be a huge help. Architecture role – leadership type role Someone who has come up doing that is useful in the role 20-30% hands on vs architecture 70-80% Job Description Data Architect – Contract The Data Architect plays a critical role in the Data Warehouse Architecture team by providing thought leadership on tooling, processes, and content for a collection of Agile teams delivering data-related insurance features. A successful candidate will have experience and be comfortable with/have: - A passion for all things data. - Five or more years of hands-on full lifecycle Data Architecture experience. - Experience specifically in Azure, and ideally an Azure Solutions Architect certification - Experience with both structured and non-structured data, and both relational and non-relational solutions, using vendor and open source options. - A solid grasp of the NFRs for the various implementations and options. - An understanding of API design, including RESTful. - Demonstrated ability to solve problems, large and small. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively deal with all stakeholders. - Ability to both explain concepts at a high-level, but also work at a very low level with strong attention to detail. - Ability to review options in a problem space, including pros and cons of all considered options, and produce a summary assessment including a recommendation. - Know when to make independent decisions and when to circle back with appropriate questions. - Guiding a collection of Agile teams (5+ teams) by providing architectural runway through well thought out solution patterns. - Working within a new domain by identifying gaps in knowledge and actively seeking the answers. - Working within a team environment to elevate the collective efforts of the entire team.
