About the role
Role: Data Engineer
Duration:12 months contract Location:225 Park Ave S, New York, NY 10003 (5 days’ onsite required)
Summary: The main function of a software engineer is to apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers work. We work cross-functionally with teams across multiple disciplines, such as simulation, AR/VR optics, Reality Labs Research, silicon, and sensors, to design and develop novel ML solutions tailored for the requirements and constraints of each particular device in Reality Labs.
Responsibilities
Review and approve the modification of existing databases and database management systems. Instruct staff to write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system. Direct database development and approve project scope and limitations. Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project. Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure. Approve, schedule, plan and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems. Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information. Preserve privacy in constructing data pipelines for image and sensor data.
Skills Required
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Information System, or equivalent experience with programming knowledge (i.e. Python, Database architectures, etc.). 3+ years proven experience as a Data Engineer, Software Developer, or similar role involving data pipeline development, software development, and data analysis. 2+ years of Data Engineering using Python supporting Data Science teams. 2+ years of proven SQL skills for data querying and manipulation in relational databases. Exposure to machine learning concepts and experience using Python libraries for machine learning such as NumPy, Scikit-learn, Pandas, TensorFlow or similar. Understanding of data quality and data governance best practices. Ability to work independently and manage one’s time. Experience in the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery.
