DATABASE ENGINEER

Role: Database Engineer

Duration: 6 months (potential for extension) Location: Jersey City, NJ (Hybrid)

Database Engineers/Leads: have 7-8 different platforms, most important (largest data storage footprint) are Oacle, SQL, Sybase; others include Teradata, Postgres, MongoDB, Hadoop, UDB. Various concurrent projects involving cloud migration (hosting is a big aspect of this), cyber resiliency, upgrade of toolsets used by the database development teams (IRIS reporting, other utility applications, believes they're written in Python), database updates (versioning + optimization).

· Need to be able to come in and either be a Lead (if needed) or Senior Developer who can mentor, still be involved in decision-making from technical perspective, but not personnel leadership (should the current lead return)

· 7-8 platforms they're working with, folks have to be knowledgeable at a certain level for all

· Oracle, SQL, Sybase most important --> need a development background to be able to look into Python (maybe) toolset they're using, dig in, find errors, and modify as needed.

· Deeply involved in database engineering side from the database design--schema, modeling, partitioning, procedures, triggers, views, etc. but also infrastructure side and provisioning

· Hosting provisioning through Ansible

· Big initiative around re-sizing, optimization, understanding what can and should be migrated to and hosted on the cloud without over-loading

· Setting up processes and procedures around database server usage

· Applications around reporting (IRIS), golden source data repository/mart

· Cyber resiliency efforts--building automation around refreshes, triggering which cyber events, what should be classified as immutable, etc.

· Onsite 3 days/week

Required Skills:

· Database platform experience (Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase critical) (exposure to Hadoop, Teradata, Postgres, Mongo, UDB to extent where they can pick up quickly)

· Database engineering (schema design, procedures, triggers, etc)

· Database infrastructure and hosting planning

· Automation scripting
