About the role
Role: Developer/Sys Admin Duration: 12 month contract to hire Location: 100% Remote Biggest things here are: - Ruby code exp. - CHEF/Puppet (if they don’t have that, ansible/python is similar manager said) - Telegraph influx exp. (if they don’t have this, they will need heavy Prometheus exp.) Need to convert!! PROJECT: InfluxData deployment. The team is working on a new enterprise telemetry monitoring tool called Influx, replacing our current monitoring infrastructure. We are looking to go entirely with Open Source tools, and building our own tools. IDEAL BACKGROUND: We are looking for people who have both a developer & sysadmin mindset…meaning they can build tools and support them. TOP REQUIREMENTS: a. Able to read & update code, and utilize code management tools like GitHub – 5+ years experience b. TSDB (Time Series Data Base) management 2+ years experience c. Understanding of Data Visualization 2+ years experience d. Write and maintain operational playbooks 5+ years experience *** What experience will set candidates apart from one another? If they have Site Reliability Engineering backgrounds. LOCATION: Will start working remotely. Can come onsite to a UHG location once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, but can remain remote if they'd like. *** Cannot provide sponsorship upon conversion. INTERVIEW PROCESS: a. How many rounds? Two, three max. b. Video vs. phone? – Either/or c. How technical will the interviews be? First interview not technical…2nd interview highly technical Is this person a sole contributor or part of a team? Part of a team If so, please describe the team? (Please be detailed as to what the candidate is expected to do or complete on a daily basis) • Review and maintain Chef cookbooks • Telemetry (Telegraf, Influx) operational maintenance • Interpret Grafana operational dashboards to restore services from outages • Deploy systems based on designs & architecture from others (private cloud-based) • Develop small-scale software solutions from limited requirements What software tools/skills are needed to perform these daily responsibilities? • TSDB (Time Series Database) management • Understanding of Data Visualization • Able to read & update code • Utilize code management tools like GitHub • Write and maintain operational playbooks What skills/attributes are a must have? • Both Development & operational skills • Self-starter - doesn't wait for work assignments • General understanding of data visualization • Experience with Application Performance Management tools • Experience with message queuing • Experience with containers What skills/attributes are nice to have? • Grafana experience • TSDB (time series database) experience (Graphite, Prometheus, Influx) • Experience with DataViz tools like Grafana, Tableau • Experience with OpenShift and/or Kubernetes What are the work hours? (ex. 9am-5pm, day/night shifts, rotating shifts, etc) 9-5 to start, though it could change to a swing shift (day starting between 11 am and 1 pm) What type of interview process is preferred?
